Pendant necklace

Hi everyone, it’s my 40th birthday soon and my in laws have kindly given me £200 to buy a necklace (they asked and I said I wanted one). I’d quite like silver with some kind of gold element on it. I’d like a pendant type necklace and It must be good quality because I want to wear it everyday. This also means it can’t be too big or fussy. I’d also prefer an 18 inch chain too. I’ve seen a few I like but I’m being very indecisive and can’t decide what to choose. I don’t really want anything like an animal etc. Are acorns etc are a bit over? Are hearts too young? (I’ll be 40) Maybe I should go for something like a square/disc/cylinder etc. I just don’t know. If you wear a pendant necklace what’s on the end? Thanks everyone.

Skagen ones are lovely, but they're not silver. I've got an Alex Monroe one and a Tiffany one. Both are lovely quality and were under £200.

I think I have an Alan Ardiff pendant (heart of gold) from c20 years ago. I still love it. I had lost track of the designer's name, so very pleased to have been reunited with them!

I like the quality of my Alex Monroe and Alan Ardiff pendants - they feel substantial. I'd love a Georg Jensen necklace, but probably already have too many.

So you've just been spamming that designer since you joined MN.

You're not doing her any favours.

Even if you actually are her.

Who’d have thought a tread about necklaces would lead to deleted comments and controversy 🤷🏻‍♀️ Thanks everyone for all of your lovely recommendations.

I couldn't find an infinity necklace that I liked so I've created my own with a good quality gold chain and a cheap gold wedding ring with a wide diameter and thin band. I love it, simple and comfy.

How lovely of your in laws OP.

I wouldn’t go for a heart personally. I’d probably go for a modern abstract shape. Definitely recommend Georg Jensen as linked above. Beautiful and classic yet modern.

What about something like this

Riley & Riley in Aldeburgh make beautiful jewellery.

My husband bought me one of their pebble necklaces.

Pebble from the beach which is used to make a mould.

There is only ever one made.

I had some earrings made using another two pebbles.

Aldeburgh is one of my favourite places so always have a piece of it with me 🙂

@CouldBeOuting thank you so much for the link. I’ve never come across this designer before and the pieces are just stunning. Exactly the sort of thing I’m looking for. Do you know what the quality is like? Thanks again.

@RJnomore1 I love that pendant. I particularly like the mix of gold and silver. It’s a definite contender. Thank you very much.

Dower and Hall - how about one of their birthstone pendants?

Also Monica Vinader

There are a lot of really cool smaller, independent designers who do interesting pendants. This list has some great ideas (not all apply)

Have a look at Chambers & Beau jewellery. They're an independent designer and the whole concept is about mixing and matching materials, charms, lengths etc. They would be around your price range.

LadyCarolineDester · 02/09/2021 16:43

I’ve had a few things from www.boothandbooth.co.uk. They are good for chains in different lengths and they have great customer service.

ParoxetineQueen · 02/09/2021 17:00

Sheila Fleet, made in Orkney, maybe only silver for your budget but beautiful sheilafleet.com/collections/necklaces

@ChocolateRiver The quality is top notch. I have several of his pieces.

He has also made jewellery for The Queen and President Obama.

He is pretty well known in Ireland.
