I have a permanent home based job. Need a new Zoom wardrobe.

Any ideas on where I can look?

I like Boden but need similar quality for cheaper iyswim

I wouldn't have thought quality would matter so much if you're only wearing it for zoom calls. I usually wear a shirt or nice top with leggings. I'll have a blazer on the chair next to me to put on if needed

Bluntness100 · 29/08/2021 20:39

I’m quite into Hobbs at the moment, suspect the same price point though, you really only need tops.

chocolatecheesecake · 29/08/2021 20:44

Interesting/smart collars or neck detail - you'll only be seen from the shoulders up! And something you can put thermals underneath as I find i really cold sitting still all day. Thermal socks and thicker soled/sheepskin slippers help too.

littlebilliie · 29/08/2021 21:00

I've just bought some plain linen from Monsoon for that reason in jewel colours they are 70% and very flattering

KeyboardWorriers · 29/08/2021 21:54

Following. But whilst it is true that on zoom calls we are only seen from waist up, the reality is I am rushing from zoom call to school run everyday at 2.45 so actually could do with something very comfortable for bottom half that doesn't look ridiculous with a smart blouse...

I have bought most of my blouses second hand recently ... Mint velvet, Hobbs, whistles etc (but for a fraction of the price)

listentomydeclaration · 29/08/2021 22:15

@KeyboardWorriers

That's my issue too, I can't just wear jammies on my bottom half!

I like the idea of smart collars - any suggestions there?

Following. I actually almost posted the exact same thing last night - trying to figure out if there's a way to pull off leggings and a smart blouse...I think the answer is no!

TiddleTaddleTat · 30/08/2021 08:08

I've gone for cheaper tops than I'd wear in real life. Blouses in prints or with neck details from shops like new look or supermarkets - TU and George. Used to get stuff from warehouse, whistles, cos, uniqlo but quality has dived everywhere and with zoom calls you can't see the quality of the hems!
On the bottom half I've got a couple of soft, lightweight paper bag trousers that tie at the waist. Anything to avoid stiff trousers - tie or elastic is best for me.

I have been buying oversized shirts to wear with leggings for zoom calls, new look are pretty good quality for the price, especially for wfh / school runs.

I've been buying up stock from WeirdFish. 100% cotton, super comfy, don't fade with washing and no ironing. Over winter I was wearing the dresses with leggings. Summer just dresses or tops with joggers.

Now that I'm going out for meetings I do find them too casual and revert back to my Hobbs wardrobe. Fine for Zoom/Teams.

I use a green screen so do have to be careful re colours and patterns.

Kittykatmacbill · 30/08/2021 12:42

I wear boden modern shirts (www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/modern-classic-shirt-milkshake-toucan-tile) and cheaper versions from tkmaxx with jeans or chinos, with a fleece / jersey when not on zoom.
Think I may look a bit like my mum, but seems to be okay.

PinkFootstool · 30/08/2021 12:52

I love vest tops under beautiful kimonos - have a look at One Hundred Stars. Any generic top underneath works great for Zoom.

BrocolliFloret · 30/08/2021 13:26

Need the same! I’ve been looking for jersey polo tops with a fancy collar. Boden have some plain ones but the V neck looks a bit steep.

Just need to look smart (on a par with a male shirt no tie) from the shoulders up whilst being comfy.

I find anything with a pattern doesn’t look formal, and the fabric doesn’t come across on camera so it feels a waste to be in a silk shirt that needs dry cleaning or in an uncomfortable viscosey top. And it would be nice to avoid ironing if there was a way around wearing shirts.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 30/08/2021 13:48

I'm not in a smart job, so am essentially wearing what I would wear to meet a friend for lunch on a Saturday really, but I did buy a couple of "mock collars" last year which were great with a plain crew-neck jumper. One was from Arket, and the other from Etsy. I have a lot of nice knitwear, and tend to wear jewellery/bold lipstick too.

Agree with PP re thermals - I work at the kitchen table and get really cold, so the Uniqlo base layers are a must! I also just bought myself some Ugg boots to wear in the house when it gets colder because I think if your feet are chilly it is really hard to feel warm.

jackstini · 30/08/2021 13:48

I wear dresses - with leggings/opaque tights if cold and without if warm
I have some long sleeved and some short

Much more comfortable when sitting for long periods and no worrying about what tops go with bottoms

RosesAndHellebores · 30/08/2021 13:53

I've carried on with my wrap dresses and tops and find a chunky necklace helps when on zoom/teams and a slightly darker or brighter than usual lipstick.

Pretty sure I'll morph to more very dark skinnies/ankle skimmers with smart tops over time.

chocolatecheesecake · 30/08/2021 19:10

Bottom half for when I have to do the school run or pop out - I've bought some smarter jogger/tapered ankle trousers and also some wide leg trousers with elasticated waistbands. M&S does good versions of both and I've heard good things about John Lewis own brand versions as well. Sometimes jeans but sometimes I find they can get uncomfortable when sat at a desk all day

Smart collars - monsoon, boden has some nice sweatshirts this season with collar detail and also cardigans with interesting detailing.

nordica · 30/08/2021 19:18

Sainsbury's usually has surprisingly nice patterned shirts and blouses and they are using eco friendly fabrics too now. I just got a gorgeous one with leopards on it.

I also have a collection of tencel shirts from M&S in plain colours that I wear unbuttoned on top of patterned tees to smarten the look. My workplace is casual though but it's I like looking good on our calls. (Also permanently wfh.)

NeverTalkToStrangers · 30/08/2021 19:19

Plain tops with statement necklaces over the top.

listentomydeclaration · 31/08/2021 16:46

I do love a statement necklace! Need some recommendations for osme!

Personally I wear quite basic tops, but I avoid white and black. Black seems somehow a bit morbid, and something about white makes me look blotchy, despite the lighting (I usually suit white)
I have a few nice necklaces and earrings I use to jazz up simple t-shirts and tops
