Bank holiday outing and the weather isn't what I'd planned for

A group I've only recently become part of going to a seaside pub to see a band outdoors.

I'd originally planned denim shorts, abstract print floaty strapy top and a lose thin linen jumper. Trainers. I was happy Grin

Now it looks like it will be downright chilly and jeans are causing me difficulty at present. Skinnies are apparently all wrong and wide leg jeans are either scruffy or too formal to my eyes. Mum jeans, look exactly like what they are. Something my mum would have worn 30 years ago! I do not think it's a look I can pull off in my 50s.

I have some dark wide leg jeans that look good on my shape, but they're quite "smart" (maybe too smart for this occasion?) and I'm struggling to find tops and shoes that work with them.

You can usually find what the weather is like , or going to be like in most areas, But going to a pub for music, and being outside, you can literally wear what you like, as being casual. nothing will be forbidden.

Maxi dress and a leather or denim jacket? Stick leggings under the dress if you’re cold.

TuftyRusty · 30/08/2021 08:50

Maxi dress and jacket, or jumpsuit? Bit more coverage if it’s colder than shorts. Or any other summery trousers you have but with a jacket in case? FWIW I don’t think wide legs jeans would look too scruffy or casual - I bet there’ll be a mixture of people at a gig in a pub some dressed up and some less so.

LubaLuca · 30/08/2021 08:54

Any style of jeans will be fine in a pub garden. Just wear what you have that will keep you comfortable all day, nobody will be checking to see you got the memo about skinnies.

Divebar2021 · 30/08/2021 08:55

What’s the issue with the jeans and your tops? Is it colour or cut? I have high waisted, wide leg cropped jeans that I wear shorter tops with. Can you put on a vest / tank t shirt and then the linen jumper with a French tuck ( if it’s the length that’s wrong ). They won’t be too smart.

CampaignToo · 30/08/2021 08:55

No, I'm concerned that my wide leg jeans (dark wash, a bit shiny) are too smart, not too casual. I don't own any of the scruffier variety, which would, I think, be suitable.

I haven't got a maxidress. I do have a maxi skirt, which I've worn for a lot of casual occasions this summer, but I wore it out with the same people on Saturday night Grin

I'm just really struggling to make jeans work atm. The new shapes don't work with my tops and shoes and I don't know what to replace them with.

What about a dress over leggings and a jumper/rain coat? You can wear with any shoes or even wellies.

WirKindervomBahnhofZoo · 30/08/2021 08:57

Just wear your skinny jeans. Lots of others will be wearing them. Have fun!

GorgonzolaSouffle · 30/08/2021 08:58

Honestly @CampaignToo no one will care what you wear.

Jeans, plain t shirt, jacket, scarf, flat shoes

BikeRunSki · 30/08/2021 09:02

Just wear the skinnies. No one is going to dump you as a friend for having the wrong shaped jeans once you’re older than 14.

TuftyRusty · 30/08/2021 09:05

Can you wear the skinnies you have with the top and jumper you had planned? I still don’t think wide leg dark jeans would be too smart for a pub but obvs if you don’t feel they’re right then you won’t feel comfortable!

Howshouldibehave · 30/08/2021 09:11

Skinnies are apparently all wrong

Apparently?

Says who? I’d stop taking fashion advice from ‘apparently’.

I’d wear the top and shoes you’d planned, but with skinny jeans and maybe a thicker cardigan or jacket.

IamChipmunk · 30/08/2021 09:31

Could you turn ur skinnies up a couple of times so they are just above the ankle and wear the same top and jumper? That's what Im doing to wear with trainers until it goes colder for boots.

Disclaimer. I dont think im fashionable and also not ditching my skinnies!!

GiveMeAUserName123 · 30/08/2021 09:33

Wear your skinny’s, lots there will be. Don’t even give it a second thought, have fun.

Divebar2021 · 30/08/2021 09:39

I follow this Japanese influencer in her 70’s… she wears every style of jean imaginable and looks great in all of them. Wear the skinny jeans in a new way and you won’t feel dated. ( do you have a partner who you can borrow items from?)

Skinnies are fine, most people are still wearing them.
