What's the best smart casual outfit/way to hid menopause tummy?

I really need a new outfit, smart casual with flat shoes for lots of walking please.

Budget for entire outfit is around the £500 mark and I suppose I need to factor a warm day v rain with a mix of indoors and outdoors.

Any help would be amazing please.

I think you need to be more specific - is it just a walking outfit or is it for shopping/ errands etc?
I can recommend the Seasalt raincoats - nice fabric but still waterproof will take a chunk out of your budget (around £100) but worth it. Cheap raincoats make me sweat! (also menopausal Sad )
Come in nice colours too

Thank you. I'm very prone to hot flushes. I like esprit for 100% cotton tops which help with non work wear clothes.

It's a day out in September smart casual lots of standing around in entertainment tents or looking around flower displays outside.

I don't like my belly flag, upper arms or legs so I'm thinking trousers or long skirt/dress although if it rains there will be mud. I don't think smart casual reaches to wellies and dark jeans though? I like jump suits as I'm tall enough for them but wouldn't know what footwear.

I’m in same situation, walk 10000 steps or more most days, slim but whatever I do I always have some tummy. I’m no style guru but what works for me is a great pair of jeans ( I will pay top dollar for that and I love Paige jeans) cotton tops, a swingy 1950s style jacket. Nice trainers ( I’m a size 5 and at the advanced age of 54 just realised I can buy kids’ New balance or indeed any other brand and avoid paying the VAT). Ker-ching. I can get away with A line skirts and a top that skims my waist and ends on the hips not the widest part of my tummy.

I have my faithful Levis and above tops for work days off and I agree they are fan at hiding these new areas.

I need a tummy hiding smart casual day outfit for September inc shoes and accessories which also hides my legs and flabby upper arms.

Not much to ask for Grin

My tummy would just bulge over the top of it all and I wouldn't be able to sit down all day Shock

Aussie here. Im sure you have a preferred pant style that is fitted but not TOO tight that suits you & is comfortable. I shop at Taking Shape. I have the menopause spread and find buying the size XS or S top will fit nicely but help disguise the middle age spread/takeover!!!!

I have these without the buttons and confirm that they are the most flattering and comfortable thing I own (in possession of a big tummy).
Quitelikeacatslife · 27/08/2021 23:35

Big tummy here, for your budget maybe boden or sea salt is good start. Trousers ankle grazers, stripey Breton or nice shirt and soft jacket? Or smart long cardi? Maybe nice scarf. I like moda in pelle Annette shoes.
Also jersey dress with same, white stuff have nice ones with fitted over boobs then pockets in. If more tunic length then leggings with them?

HenslowesDiary · 28/08/2021 00:16

Is this for the Chelsea Flower Show?

I'm 52, size 18 with a tummy.

Will probably wear Jersey wide leg cropped triusers (mine are Baukjen) with a blouse (I like Mint Velvet for modern florals/prints) and either a trenchcoat or blazer depending on the weather. Plus comfy black pumps.

How about a top like this? www.mintvelvet.co.uk/product/beige-silk-front-v-neck-top/34489

I have these trousers - they are very casual in the pic but I've worn them to many smart occassions www.baukjen.com/products/cropped-palazzo-trouser-caviar-black

These shoes look comfy - not super fashion but I care less and less about that now! www3.next.co.uk/style/st650490/115802

HenslowesDiary · 28/08/2021 00:20

This top would also be pretty with navy trousers www3.next.co.uk/style/st650490/115802

It’s not an outfit but reformer Pilates will be your friend.

PepperPepperMan · 28/08/2021 10:48

Some lovely links and ideas, thank you.

It is the Chelsea flower show. I'm not very keen on ankle graders, I don't like my ankles or legs at all.

I'm buying that cashmere poncho, it's lovely and so is the rain mac and Next ballet pumps.

Love this jumpsuit but I need a longer leg 73cm

I think waterproof hats are better than hoods, hoods are just difficult to see from under and they rarely stay up. I thought this was cute for the Chelsea flower show - wear all black or all navy underneath, smart lace up ankle boots....

Thanks Rina, I really like that, I'll take a look.

If I went with a patterned jumpsuit what could I wear to smartern it up?

Love the jumpsuit, but you're braver than me if you'd wear it on an outdoorsy autumn day out- I can't bear issues with undressing for the loo!

HenslowesDiary · 28/08/2021 17:59

I was going to say biker jacket but how about a blazer?

Beebumble2 · 28/08/2021 18:08

I wouldn’t wear a jumpsuit to Chelsea, the loos are not awful, but they are the temporary type you get at festivals.
Comfy trousers, top, jacket and lightweight Mac with hood that you can fold in your bag, Joules do a lovely one. Trainers or pumps.

These are not my usual style at all but I have purchased them in the hope that I like them when I try them on.

What do they look like on OP? And what did you choose to wear with them? There are some nice belted macs in the shops.

I knot the belt tightly at the back (if it's not raining), so it sort of drapes open, which would look fab with those trousers.

Little button-up cashmere knit from John Lewis £89 and you'll look stunning Smile
