Soooooo, who's gonna wear their big baggy jeans thru winter?

Anyone going to take the plunge?

Lots of people talking about ditching their slim/skinny jeans and opting for wide, mom, flare, etc.

Im interested in what you plan to wear on feet and which coat? I always think these styles will look like floating denim balloons in winter, and be heavy with damp.

Myself I'm probably going to stick with leggings on cold days Blush

Me! With Dms, platform trainers and such.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/08/2021 20:18

I have the last few winters. Mine are all slightly cropped/ankle grazer length, so no issue with dragging in puddles.

I wear DM monkey boots, trainers, Chelsea boots, and long socks if it’s too cold for a gap.

Coat-wise I have quite a few depending on the weather. Faux furs, Teddy coats, a parka with a hood, a long duvet coat, a leather biker jacket…

I’ve not worn skinny jeans since 2017.

Floisme · 27/08/2021 20:28

Like Judy I'll be doing the same as last winter: straight or barrel leg jeans or straight or tapered wool trousers, all with ankle boots that reach the hem. No gap.
I don't have any mom jeans but I imagine they would work the same - you might have to roll them down a notch, that's all.
Plus because my jeans aren't skin tight I have room underneath for thick socks and even, when it's extra cold - leggings.
So perfectly cosy.

I don't wear wide legs when it's wet whether that's in winter or summer but there are plenty of other options.

For a coat I'll switch between tweed, a knee length Barbour and, on really bad days, a Seasalt.

JamSconeCat · 27/08/2021 20:29

I will probably be in leggings as I can't get on with big boots and big tops together. I always look like a clown in wide or loose trousers/jeans.

Will have boots with chunky socks too.

OublietteBravo · 27/08/2021 20:33

I switched to mom/slim boyfriend jeans last winter. Not consciously. But when I look back I barely wore my skinny jeans. I expect this year to be similar. I wear mine with DMs.

FWIW - DD (17) has ditched her skinny jeans and is currently in boyfriend jeans or cargo pants. Which is more or less what I was wearing at her age back in 1993.

OublietteBravo · 27/08/2021 20:35

Wide leg trousers appear to be back for A/W 2021/22. I had a quick flick through the new collections earlier and they were everywhere.

TheCanyon · 27/08/2021 20:45

I have worn flares or wide legs since I started being able to buy my own, so 20 years. Fucking hate skinny jeans with a passion.

What I hate though is they bring back flares/wide legs and they're all eleventy billion feet too long, I'm 5'5, so not tall but not a total shorty either. I can't even mind the last time I wore a pair of heels.

OublietteBravo · 27/08/2021 20:53

I’m struggling with everything being high waisted. I have a short body. I don’t actually want to wear anything with a waistband that is an inch off the band of my bra. I really miss low rise trousers.

JamSconeCat · 27/08/2021 20:56

will you all be wearing darker denim in winter months?

I love the sound of Flo's long Barbour. Trousers sound lovely but never, ever suit me. I wish I could be more adventurous but hate jeans in general. I always end up in leggings , which is kinda like skinnies isn't it?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2021 21:01

I've bought some slim flares and some boot cut. Will wear with khaki jacket, camo jacket, leather jackets, knee length wool coat. I don't think I'll wear them when it rains, so unlikely to wear with a raincoat.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/08/2021 21:06

@JamSconeCat I am more likely to wear darker denim or black jeans in winter, but I have some pale blue tapered Levi’s which look great with oxblood DM boots and a mustard mohair jumper. So excited for autumn clothes!

Chloemol · 27/08/2021 21:14

Never worn skinny, just worn non skinny

HighNetGirth · 27/08/2021 21:16

Kickers

Yes! Snap. I was wearing my cherry red DMs, light coloured straight leg jeans and then navy and mustard and autumnal coloured jumpers last year - love this look. Also can’t wait to wear it all again, starting to feel colder outside here now so I don’t think it’ll be long Grin

I think the easiest non-skinnies to wear in winter are straight legs, tapered, barrel etc. They all seem to work easily with ankle boots - I’ve got DMs and chunky Chelsea boots. Then I’ve paired with wool coats as well as my navy puffer.

I’ve got some wide leg flares which work with a heeled boot I’ve got - bit of a 70s vibe going on - but this would be more of a lunch out on a dry day kinda outfit for me.

Salanda · 27/08/2021 22:17

Any of these sort of looks appeal @WeirdArchitecture?

@Salanda style twins, I think. My jeans are all with Levi’s 501 crops or balloon/barrel legs. I feel like they work all year round, and suit my figure (slim waist/big hips) well.

(Not the point of this thread, but I was in opaque tights today. I’m in Scotland and autumn is in the air.)

Salanda · 28/08/2021 09:33

@Judystilldreamsofhorses - I’ve got smaller waist and bigger hips too and find those styles flattering. I also find them more comfy than skinnies which I always found a bit restrictive. Autumn is in the air in London too, I can’t wait!

LookdeepintotheParka · 28/08/2021 10:04

I am really loving the current style of girlfriend/Mom/straight jeans which are slightly cropped - will definitely help with the wet weather jeans hazard! I'll be wearing with boots or trainers.

I was watching a stylist on Insta this morning who mentioned that a light wash jean is also in for A/W this year. I usually wear darker colours in winter but have a great pair of light wash Mom jeans which I'm v happy to embrace for winter too!

gunnersgold · 28/08/2021 10:44

Wide leg jeans are in for A/W so I'll be wearing them for evenings .. so flattering on my short self ! Will prob wear loose jeans with trainers until it's cold enough for boots and skinny's !

Nomorefuckstogive · 28/08/2021 20:01

I’ll be wearing mine with ankle boots. I have flares, straight, boyfriend and bootcut. Hate skinnies, don’t think I’ll ever go back.

SparkyBlue · 28/08/2021 20:06

I hate skinnies. They don't suit my legs at all. Mon jeans are much better on me especially high waisted ones .

TheVolturi · 28/08/2021 20:36

I would look like one of the seven dwarves with baggy jeans on and a winter coat so nope, sticking with skinny/slim.

Moonface123 · 28/08/2021 20:43

I am very tall and wear skinnies, leggings, boot cut and flared,
I also wear dresses with thick tights and ankle boots.

EllaPaella · 29/08/2021 22:42

I will be wearing my boyfriend, slim leg and Mom jeans through winter but not wide leg jeans. They all have high waists and that silhouette just really doesn't suit me these days and I'm not convinced that my lovely oversized chunky knit jumpers or warm winter duvet coat will look at all right with wide leg flares so I will be sticking to my slim leg jeans.
Unless wide leg trousers are cropped then they aren't really for me. I am interested to see how much they take off this year as everyone has been saying skinny jeans are over for the last couple of winters.
