If you have a 31inch waist and are 5ft4

I am 5ft4 and have (on a good day) a 31 inch waist.
I wear mainly size 12’s and some 14’s

I don’t have the ability to weigh myself but for a work health check I need to provide my BMI (or best guess)

If you are a similar height and waist size do you know your weight or what your bmi would be?

My waist to height ratio is within the healthy range but the top of healthy range so I’m wondering if I assume I’m in top end of the healthy range of bmi

Hi, I’m same height and waist measurement. I’m menopausal which is not helping my stomach go down. I currently weigh 11st 1lb with BMI just under 27. This puts me about 11lbs above the healthy bmi range. Interestingly I am in the process of losing weight but my waist isn’t shrinking at the moment so when I was half stone heavier my waist still measured the same. I know everyone carries weight differently but I would be surprised if size 12 is within the healthy weight range for our height. I am a very middling size 12 and I am definitely a bit flabby in areas (I am not trying to cause offence, just being honest). When I was at the top end of my healthy BMI previously I was a pretty slim size 10 and my waist was several inches smaller (as I said, menopause isn’t doing me any favours here)

EssexLioness · 25/08/2021 12:04

Wow, just checked my waist/ height ratio after your post and I am amazed that it is in the healthy range (barely, but still ok). My waist and stomach are definitely flabby and I have been concerned re possible health risks, due to visceral fat, so this is reassuring

LimpLettice · 25/08/2021 14:18

I'm 5'5, a 30 inch waist and currently at 69kg which puts my BMI at 25.3, but I am fairly hourglass with a diastasis belly...so I'd think your BMI is a little over but not by much?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 25/08/2021 14:42

It depends on where you carry your weight. Someone who is hourglass with big boobs/bum/thighs but a relatively small waist will probably be heavier than an apple shape with slim legs and the same waist measurement. It is sadly possible to be significantly overweight but still fit into a size 12 if you're quite short, as I know to my cost.

timeisnotaline · 25/08/2021 14:47

It varies enormously. I checked my notes and found I had a 31 inch waist last year with bmi about 21, weight 8.8 stone so far from overweight. Size 10. It does bother me- it’s partly long term post baby muscular I’m sure! Now pregnant again so not improving on that front anytime soon Grin

32inchtv · 25/08/2021 15:09

Thanks, this is helpful

I have been weighed in the past (at booking appointments when I first saw the midwife for each baby)

But the weight varied considerably despite not being far off the same size

I have quite small boobs and narrow shoulders, slim legs but a definite tummy (from 2 c section babies) which just doesn’t seem to disappear let alone reduce slightly no matter what I do

I have been a size 10 in the past but I was closer to 9 stone back then , My body shape has massively changed since then though so wouldn’t be surprised at being at least 1.5 possibly 2 stone heavier

It’s a shame as I want to be within a healthy BmI so I’m not clinically labelled as overweight, but visibly, in my own skin and clothes I like my body and shape and don’t feel fat (other than this annoying c section area)

I'd go for 27. If it's for work, is it so they can check if you're of higher risk from covid? If so, whatever you might be you won't be in the vulnerable category.

orangepeelsz · 25/08/2021 19:37

I'm same height and same waist measurement but large boobs and I am a size 12 -14 and 11 stone 7. My BMI is 27 ish I think

Meirou90 · 25/08/2021 20:45

I’m your height and had that waist measurement at around 11 abs a half stone

Compassion · 25/08/2021 20:54

I'm 5ft4. I weigh 61-62kg. Ideally I would like to lose a bit. My bmi is around 23. I have ibs and therefore my waist varies from 28cm - 32cm.

I would like to get back to 59kg when I think my bmi was 21....I felt very happy in my own skin then.

Compassion · 25/08/2021 20:56

...to add to my previous post...

I'm a size 12-14 on top

And size 10-12 for bottoms.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/08/2021 21:07

It varies so much that it won't be possible to guess - do you have a local chemist (lots have scales?)

notthemum · 25/08/2021 21:16

Compassion. 28 -32 cm. ? ? 🤔
A size 10 is 28 inches.
A size 14 is 32 inches. 🧐

delilahbucket · 25/08/2021 21:33

I'm the same measurements at 70kg. I've got a really big bust in comparison to my size so while I wear a 12, I struggle with tops unless they have stretch.

Compassion · 25/08/2021 22:25

Honestly this is true!!! Severe ibs can do that . I've just tried to post a photo but I can't because I'm newly signed up! I have literally recently considered buying some maternity clothing for when my ibs is at its worst. I also think 🤔 but my GP insists...that's just ibs.

Sorry to derail the OPs post

EssexLioness · 25/08/2021 22:47

I believe @Compassion as bloating from IBS can be dreadful. Those doubting the accuracy of this are very lucky not to have experienced this. I have cut out a lot of triggers for my IBS and eat almost exclusively whole foods now, but occasionally I slip up eg when eating out and my stomach can easily increase 2-3 inches. I also increase this much for a couple of days when my period starts.

StatisticallyChallenged · 25/08/2021 22:47

Think she was commenting on the use of CM not inches

Helenahandkart · 25/08/2021 23:11

Exactly the same height and waist measurement as you OP. I carry my weight round my hips mostly, but I weigh 11st 2lbs and my bmi is 27.

EssexLioness · 25/08/2021 23:16

Oh sorry @StatisticallyChallenged, yes I see you are correct! I completely missed that! 🤦‍♀️

Compassion · 25/08/2021 23:47

Oh whoops 🤭 yes I meant inches 😵‍💫

You knew what I meant!
Gwenhwyfar · 26/08/2021 17:37

"I am 5ft4 and have (on a good day) a 31 inch waist."

I'm an inch shorter and weigh around 9 stone/ 57 kg.
