I've never ordered from them before. Pic is gorgeous but will it be crap in real life? It costs 45 quid, that's the full price.

I'm 50, a size 12 and big of bust. Would wear with heeled sandals and tights. Any views?

I’ve got some beautiful dresses from silk Fred, and big boobs too. They ones I have look great in real life but I’ve had some shockers too that I’ve sent back as they supply lots of different brands.

Yes to sandals. No to tights!

BabyRace · 21/08/2021 13:11

Oooh I LOVE it!

CabbagesGreen · 21/08/2021 13:12

Looks nice but I find pleats never look as good on me for some reason. Make my middle look frumpy. Hope it works out for you though it's a lovely colour.

Palavah · 21/08/2021 13:13

It's hard to tell from the photo what the fabric will be like but you can sort of see her bra, and at £45 I'm guessing it's not going to feel lovely.

I have never bought from silk Fred but have seen others wearing their dresses in real life. They were silky/satiny and looked nice.

MorrisZapp · 21/08/2021 13:17

Thanks! I guess it's free returns so I'll have a punt. I'll start with size 12 and see how it goes 😊

It's mainly for the office party which will be in London in December but thinking it would do for ladies lunch etc too, possibly boxing day if my in laws can be arsed.

Advanced planning!

Bluntness100 · 21/08/2021 13:46

I think it’s lovely but a side note is no one should ever wear tights or socks with sandals op.

LizzieMacQueen · 21/08/2021 13:52

If it is see through then I'd suggest a slip ( not terribly fashionable ) but could be a nice pop of colour at your bust. A pink one would work.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 21/08/2021 14:09

I would size up because of the pleats. I was looking at that dress for a day-to-day work dress

KeyErro · 21/08/2021 14:13

I have this dress. Worn it a couple of times and am happy with it.
Not see-through at all.
I will note that it's 100% polyester.

LimpLettice · 21/08/2021 14:22

I wore a similar Silk Fred dress to a wedding yesterday. No pleats though. Looked lovely, was less than you spent, plenty of compliments and not see through either.

ShrikeAttack · 21/08/2021 14:30

You can get toeless tights to wear with sandals.

I also think very matt tights, or ankle socks can look great, but the rest of your look must be very deliberate.

afghanistanwhatnow · 21/08/2021 14:33

I like it OP, but wouldn't wear with tights!

afghanistanwhatnow · 21/08/2021 14:33

Also I've ordered from them before it's reputable and they sell a lot of other brands, quality is hit and miss and I find it's directly linked to how much you pay on that site! For £45 it'll probably be good quality

Flyinggeese1 · 21/08/2021 15:01

I’d say no purely as it’s polyester. But that’s just me I can’t stand it. I’m no fabric snob, I love viscose for example.

Also definitely no tights with sandals unless they’re an almost closed peep toe.

Bluntness100 · 21/08/2021 15:11

Toeless tights always look shit. Always and you slip down in yout sandal. It’s not a good look

A little leg make up or fake tan. But it needs to be bare legs if wearing sandals.

I cannot agree with this comment enough
GoWalkabout · 21/08/2021 16:15

Look up the actual brand website, I did this and the photo there gave me a more realistic idea of the dress.

3WildOnes · 21/08/2021 16:22

I have friends who have bought from them and the dresses do look quite nice. They all seem to be polyester unfortunately which I can’t stand to wear.

Blossomtoes · 21/08/2021 16:28

It looks like a nice enough dress. Please, please don’t wear tights with sandals! In fact, don’t wear sandals in December!

Miseryisabutterfly · 21/08/2021 17:15

I think that style could look a bit frumpy with a big bust (I say that as someone with a largish bust). I do think it’s lovely though. How are returns? Worth a try if it’s easy to send back.

Miseryisabutterfly · 21/08/2021 17:16

Sorry, I see returns are free! Try it!
