Have to wash hair every day:-(

My hair is quite dry and not in great condition. My hair dresser advised me not to wash my hair every day, but I either go to the gym or swim 7 days a week so need to wash it to get rid of chlorine and I get really sweaty in the gym.
Everyone I know seem to go days between washing hair, but what do you do if you exercise every day?

I have to wash mine every day too. It's the wrong kind of curly and simply won't look tidy or professional on day two. I use a nice Toni and Guy shampoo and conditioner, and do treatments every couple of weeks. It's not ideal but it keep it shiny and smooth enough.

Don't use shampoo. It strips the natural oils out of your hair. Co-wash instead.

I wash my hair every day. Can’t stand it being even slightly greasy! Never found it a problem though.

Angryfrommanchester1 · 19/08/2021 11:14

I don’t like the feeling of ‘sweaty scalp’ so I’d was every day with a mild shampoo or dilute a tiny bit so you’re not swamping your scalp in shampoo.
Personally My scalp gets dandruffy if I don’t wash every other dat, so personally I’ve given up trying to extend the time between washes.

Urgh the typos - sorry

dontgobaconmyheart · 19/08/2021 11:32

I just wash every day. I'm used to it so it doesn't massively bother me, I prefer it to feel clean and can't bear the feel of things like dry shampoo, I'd rather wash.

What works for 'other people'
isn't always going to work for you. I'd objectively prefer to be someone who only needs to wash once a week but I'm not so it is what it is!

Have you tried shampoos specifically to mitigate chlorine damage, eg: ones fir swimming?

randomsabreuse · 19/08/2021 11:39

I tend to rinse my hair with conditioner every day but "wash" with shampoo only when I've done something which involves a sweaty hat type thing (riding) which seems to work better for my hair.

HannahinParis · 19/08/2021 12:59

Thanks for all responses. I do have shampoo for swimming and really good products, treatments etc just really dry and damaged hair. Glad to see it’s not just me who wash my hair every day. I always thought all people did as I have done so all my life and never had this problems before.

Put cheap conditioner on your hair before swimming.
Co-wash after gym.
Use a gentle shampoo.

opinionminion · 19/08/2021 13:55

I've got unruly naturally curly hair which needs to be washed everyday so that I look as groomed as possible for work. It is also dry.
I use a good quality shampoo (no sulphites) but only on the top of my head - I let the soapy water just run through the length instead of massaging it in.
I like my hair to feel clean.

Bananaman123 · 19/08/2021 20:25

I used to wash everyday and if I was exercising I would need to aswell. Perhaps still wash but follow a few times a week with a good conditioning mask

Shurl · 19/08/2021 20:50

@WhoppingBigBackside

Put cheap conditioner on your hair before swimming. Co-wash after gym. Use a gentle shampoo.
If you do this, please wear a swimming cap, it's horrible swimming behind someone who as put loads of oily protecter in their hair!

Do you wear a cap? That might help. And make sure you fully wet your hair before getting in the pool, it reduces the amount kf chlorine your hair absorbs

WhoppingBigBackside · 20/08/2021 09:24

Yes, of course, pleaae wear a hat.

Urgh, swimming pool with hair in it.

Salanda · 20/08/2021 10:18

I wash my hair every day for the same reasons as you - I exercise every day.
It’s in good condition - I use Olaplex and Elasticizer regularly. When I swim I saturate my hair in the shower before swimming and use a hat, then wash with well and deep condition afterwards.
Do you blow dry/straighten your hair after you wash? I don’t use heat often and I think that helps keep it in good condition.

SirenSays · 20/08/2021 11:22

Have rest days, do lighter exercises where you aren't sweating buckets everyday or wear a swim cap.

NatMoz · 20/08/2021 11:28

Do you WFH?

When I was not pregnant I exercised a lot (running) and would avoid washing my hair as I WFH so no one cared. Washed it once a week.

HannahinParis · 21/08/2021 11:40

@NatMoz, yes I wfh but spend a lot of time on zoom calls unfortunately. I feel like even when I am alone I like to wash my hair to just feel awake and fresh but I will try to train myself not to.
