Trendy water proof jacket for teenage girl

Hi, my daughter starts secondary school in September, for which she has to wear a blazer. I'm struggling buying a nice trendy water proof jacket that she can wear over the blazer, as she ll be walking to school and back. She doesn't want a coat as she ll be quite warm walking there with layers on. Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.Smile

North face. That’s what they all wear here. My daughter is 15 and just going in to year 11. They all seem to have the ones that’s about £100 for the adult sizes. Single layer with mesh lining and most prefer the nans fit as fits better over blazers. DD’s is big enough to even wear her rucksack under. Think hers is a men’s large as she wanted it oversized.

Other than that plain black unbranded ones that fold small enough to cram into the corner of a backpack so they don’t have to carry it.

Not sure if hers is this one

Far more reasonable price.

Year 7 they all likes those bright yellow rubberised ones but I don’t think they wear those now.

@UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter thank you so much. I've been worried about sending my daughter into year 7, looking uncool. I just want her to fit in and feel okay about her new coat and bag etc. My husband did mention he had seen alot of secondary school kids wearing northface jackets. I'm even worried that the backpack she picked might stand out a little too much! Right I'll get buying. 😊

@Beautiful3 she’ll be fine. I remember being so nervous when dd started secondary schoo. Unlike my boys who are older and didn’t seem fazed at all she was much more nervous and anxious about starting and saying she was going to stay at primary school.
Once she’d been there for a few days and met new friends she’s loved it ever since. It’s not been without friendship ups and downs but overall much better than I anticipated.

My biggest tip is to listen to them. Let them vent and try not to go in ‘helping’ right away. Like adults teens often want to vent about a friend and then the next day it’s app forgotten and they are besties again.

Plain seems to be the key for most things except for back packs. Backpacks are where the personality can come through. At dd’s school there are year 11’s with smuggle backpacks I’m guessing worn ‘ironically’!

In general teenagers seem to be a lot nicer to each other these days. Yes you get the odd bully but mostly they all just coexist without issue.

Do you know what, as someone who has done this twice with girls, don’t bother buying one yet. September is usually nice-see what she fancies once she is there. You might miss this years ‘trend’ and waste money. In my experience serious trends only really last the first couple of years and then they develop a bit more of their own style (good luck with getting a teen to wear a coat anyway 😀)

@UnicornMadeOfPinkGlitter that's reassuring to know. Thanks for the tip, I do need to learn to step back and listen more. I have noticed that her friendships seem to change almost weekly!

@NaturalBlondeYeahRight, actually that's an excellent idea! I've just asked her if she wants to go in without a jacket and see what most girls wear, before we buy one and she said yes. Thank you.

Yes NorthFace is seen as very cool by teens these days,

Thatstheway · 14/08/2021 20:44

Helly Hanson do some nice ones ( if she's anything like my teens the rain jacket stays balled up in their backpack even when it's pissing down!)

itsgettingwierd · 14/08/2021 20:46

Yeah until after Oct half term they just take a mini umbrella around here.

South coast and mild through until November and showers are usually umbrella proof!

StarfishDish · 15/08/2021 08:44

@Beautiful3 If you're going for North Face, 'Blacks' have a sale on at the minute Smile

BeautifulTulips · 15/08/2021 08:58

I would definitely wait until she after she has started, so that she can see what is worn at her school. From my experience it seems to vary from school to school!

Beautiful3 · 15/08/2021 09:11

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the advice. Secondary school fashion is a new one for me! At least I'll know what to expect when the youngest starts there also! @StarfishDish ooh really?! Thats good to know as these branded jackets can cost £100! Thank you.
