Help dress a size 14 woman with a tummy and a big bum

Hi all

The lady in question is me, obviously.

I have no need for smart clothes- I’m a mum who likes to be comfy and can dress very casually to work.

I’m a size 14 these days, through not depriving myself and also being on antidepressants. I don’t feel my best but this is probably my true weight sadly.

I have wide hips and a tummy since becoming a mum. I’m sometimes bloated. I also have a large arse. I’m really selling myself here aren’t I!

Anyway. My usual outfit is either a sweatshirt or t shirt and hoody/ cardigan with either boyfriend jeans or skinny jeans- which aren’t that comfy.

I just don’t know what to wear anymore. My legs aren’t up to much either. Help!

I'm going to lurk in the hope of some fashionistas coming to offer good advice
My daughter tells me my choice of style makes me look fatter but I don't know what else to wear
Baggy , flowey shapeless rather than fitted bulging
Got some mum jeans and saw myself in a shop window 🤢

I really like jeggings which are comfier skinnies really with a blouse that's fitted round the shoulders but skimming over the tummy for smartish weekends and weirdly have found that shorts and a loose tee shirt are quite flattering through summer.

For smarter worker I have a few pairs of capri trousers from M and S which hold me in a bit and then again a blouse that skims over the tummy. Wrap dresses can be good too but it really depends on the cut.

Check out Style Me Happy on Instagram and FB. Emily has lots of tips and ideas, and she'll tell you what colours suit you and what clothes suit your body shape. For £10 a month (no sign up) she picks out clothes for that colouring/body shape from highstreet shops. I can highly recommend her services!

I'm a similar shape, things I find help are wearing the same colour top and bottom, and drawing attention to my upper half. Black trousers and a pink top kind of cuts me in half and draws attention to the fact my arse is much wider than my shoulders!

How tall are you @Lavenderpillow?
I’m a 12-14 with a big hips/bum, I find a fitted top and wide leg or tailored ankle length trousers, or a dress with a belt give me definition. Heels rather than flats also help but I’m not a huge fan!

Lavenderpillow · 11/08/2021 22:28

@OxanaVorontsova I’m 5 foot 4. I can’t deal with heels unfortunately and they’re not practical for my job. I agree tho, they are v flattering.

I’m the same size as you, OP. I find shift dresses more flattering than skirts and tops. I wear linen ones with pumps in the summer.

I’m still in skinny jeans, as they pull in my stomach. I wear them with blouses- usually with a longer back- left untucked, still with pumps.

That or walking gear Grin.
