My hair is thinning especially round my forehead and I need volume
Hairdresser says get blonde highlights to bulk it up. I'm naturally red but fading
I want some volume and love the new shag cuts but can I do that with fine hair?

I wouldn't. I have fine hair it looks much thinner with layers. Try the colour recommendations your hairdresser has made.

I think it could look nice. It only means a slightly shorter fringe than you have now.

I disagree, I have fine hair and it's worked well. My hair has never felt so got after getting layers cut in. You need a hairdresser who knows what they're doing with it.

I'm also a fading redhead with fine hair. I cant help you with the haircut but I recently got some blonde highlights (to blend in the whites) and it has made a huge difference to the volume of my hair.
I can go about 3 days without washing it now whereas before I had to wash and style every day.

Mixed views on the thickness though. Hmmm. Any other suggestions other than a massive headband ?

My hair was a similar colour to yours. I also started going thin around my forehead. I have gradually gone lighter over lockdown and it looks much better.
