As there's a face thread going. I've been using Dove but have read that actual soap bars are better. Can you recommend me yours please, especially if they're not too expensive!

Roger & Gallet soaps are superb. Great fragrance and beautiful packaging.

FictionalCharacter · 10/08/2021 00:16

These are my faves. Smell lovely and non-drying www.thelittlegoatsoapcompany.co.uk/product-category/goats-milk-soap/

Slimmingstar · 10/08/2021 00:18

I use the basic multi pack bars from Aldi, Morrison’s…….. they all do the same job…….

opinionminion · 11/08/2021 19:13

I like Lux, Wrights coal tar and Dettol

Jedstre · 11/08/2021 19:23

Dettol sensitive bar soap next to the bath for teens to use. Usually buy from Savers or Home Bargains.

I’ve had some lovely soaps from TKMaxx

Try anything from the Little Soap Company this lavender and citrus one smells amazing.

You can pick up some gorgeous soap bars at TK Maxx. I have recently discovered "Nuddy" soaps via Instagram. They will send you a full size bar for just the postage. Absolutely gorgeous product and I'll be buying more.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 12/08/2021 08:52

anything from Glacier Smoothie from Alaska - these are the best soaps I've ever used, made with glacier silt, they're gently exfoliating and leave my skin feeling incredible.

Unfortunately I've used up all the ones I bought a few years back, and visiting Alaska again is currently off the cards. I'm battling with myself as to whether the P&P costs make it worth it or not, I haven't clicked "buy now" on my shopping basket, but I've been very close a few times.......

@RoastedHazelnutLatte

Just on some of these recommends: sodium palmate is palm oil. It's not always obvious to those trying to avoid it.

Palm oil is used is soap because it's a relatively cheap ingredient with some good qualities not found in the other two oils usually included (olive and coconut). But those same qualities can be provided by other oils/butters so it's not necessary.

All the ones I've clicked on are using palm oil. Can you recommend any that don't?

One company says it's "sustainable palm oil" is there such a thing?

The problem with soap is you get a definite build up of scum or something that mean you have to clean the bath or shower cubicle more. I don't mind this in the sink but hat bath cleaning

ginghamstarfish · 12/08/2021 22:36

I have just bought 3 boxes of soap 'offcuts' made by the Friendly Soap Company in Yorkshire. £9.75 for a 1.4kg box, lovely variety and about 16 bars. Fab Bargain!

RoseMartha · 12/08/2021 22:50

I use various ones currently using dove but have imperial leather and pears in the cupboard too.

I used a seaweed one some years ago, nice fresh smell without being overwhelming not cheap but it lasted for months.

Did you get this in a shop or from the website?
YumBroadBeans · 12/08/2021 22:57

I love the round ones by Suma cooperative - which are sold loose (unpackaged) in health food shops and they're only £2-3.
Otherwise Pears original

LavendulaAngustifolia · 12/08/2021 22:59

French Marsielle soap. There are loads of vendors out there but I get it from ebay. Every flavour you can think of. Love them all.

RampantIvy · 12/08/2021 23:01

I have just started a Marseille soap. It is lovely.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/08/2021 23:08

I'm a bit careful with soaps as some give me a rash (Imperial Leather was the worst for that) and a lot of them make me sneeze because of the scents they use. My favourite is Avoca no.4, it lathers well and doesn't go soft and smells lovely. Nesti Dante are also good but some of them make me sneeze and I can never remember which so I have to sniff them in the shop before I buy.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 12/08/2021 23:12

There are so many gorgeous ones on Etsy. I've stopped buying from corporations and am supporting small business.

Actually just checked and the last box I bought were from Saponista...not on Etsy. Fab products. My hands are often dry but these soaps really seemed to moisturise them. I bought the mixed box.

PS Don't buy Dove www.pinknews.co.uk/2021/08/03/jackie-doyle-price-dove-trans-laurel-hubbard/

Boogiewoody · 14/08/2021 10:21

The pink Lux one - Rose and Silk oil I think it is. They also do a cream one that's Jasmine which is nice, but the rose one just beats it. It's about 55p in Morrisons

leccybill · 15/08/2021 00:46

The Soap n Glory soap bar is nice.

vdbfamily · 15/08/2021 00:58

TKMaxx have great range of quality soaps. I try different each time.

LaundryForever · 15/08/2021 01:19

There are some beautiful high quality soaps that are on Etsy, I've got a couple of favourite sellers now and won't use anything else. I've got really sensitive skin too so am really careful with what I put on my skin.
