Curated ear piercing...

Hello!so, I've seen recently a lot of people on Instagram talking about curated ear piercing styles...

Known as the 'curated ear', it's ear piercing x1000. It's an art form that consists of multiple piercings all over the ear in different formations unique to each person. ... You never 'curate' your right ear to be identical to your left.

^^ copied above, from online.

Anyway, it's something I think looks super pretty, and it's definitely got me thinking about future piercings!

I'd love to see yours and if you have any piercings that you love and would recommend? I had a forward helix but sadly wasn't pierced properly and so it had to come out.. I loved how it looked though, so really tempted to have that done again!

I'd also love to know where everybody buys their helix jewellery from, as I'm really struggling to find any that I like 🙈

A curated ear is a thing but was more a thing in 2019.

It's not quite the same as teenage multiple piercings as it's meant to be more bespoke & basically ££££ 😆

It is the same, random locations for piercings with a twatty name for it

@Kithic

i thought the difference was the piercings used eg diamonds instead of the metal studs. In the 90s I was never offered different earring choices

once your piercing has healed, you can/could put what you wanted in

Curated is just now a wanky buzzword for arranged. You dont arrange a playlist now, you 'curate' it (fatboyslim! I'm looking at you )- you dont wear jewellery you 'curate' it, you dont create a menu, you curate it

Its totally cringe-y, trying too hard

I have a "curated ear" but this is the first time I've heard it has a name, I just thought I had a few piercings or was having a mid life crisis.

I have only had them recently so they haven't been changed yet.
I have a double forward helix, surface tragus and an anti tragus in one ear, plus the standard 2x lobe.

My other ear is just 2x lobe plus tragus which I've had for about 15 years.

Don’t apologise OP, SM are always trying to come up with new funky names for things that have been around for donkeys years.

I have nothing in my left ear these days, my right had a tragus and conch piercing. I used to have three lobe piercings in each, all with random earrings, and different cartilage piercings. Now I just have the two but i’ve been thinking of a new one for the left ear. It’s been a long time since I had a piercing!

DoylyCarte · 10/08/2021 10:56

I have three studs in each lobe - diamond studs, Swiss blue topaz both sides and then on one side light blue topaz, the other other a tanzanite. Also have a helix with a white gold ring… am planning on getting another in each lobe and forward helix on the other side. (I’m not on insta though so only inadvertently following a trend 😂)

The diamond studs were a gift, but I’ve found Etsy is pretty good for white gold/gemstone screw back studs/helix - I need screw backs as I lose earrings so ended up getting the topaz made and sent from the US (the post-Brexit import taxes were an unexpected extra £££ tho!!). The white gold helix ring was also from Etsy (U.K. seller)

I haven’t heard the phrase curated ear before, but I think it looks good on people.

It's not curated, it's selected, organized, and looked after.

Bit quicker to say 'curated'...

LazyMareofEastown · 10/08/2021 14:20

"Curated" makes me laugh. It sounds so twatty 😂

Anyway, here are mine (left conch and right forward helix had only just been done hence the redness).

Would recommend Etsy (specifically a chap in Thailand called Piercing Room by Jay who does amazing handmade jewellery - ££ but worth it) and Pinch & Fold for more easily available jewellery.

Only downsides are discomfort when sleeping and occasionally ragging one of them with a hair towel or when pulling a top over my head in which instance my screams can be heard for miles around.

P.s. Am going to get a double flat in my right ear to finish my set up now that piercing shops are open again. Then I'm done.

I think.

thunderandlightningg · 10/08/2021 15:17

@LazyMareofEastown oh wow I love you're, I love the forward helix! I had that but it wasn't pierced properly and sadly it got really infected ☹️☹️

you dont have to use all of those words
excelledyourself · 10/08/2021 15:27

@LazyMareofEastown

Love your ears! I want my forward helix done. How sore was it?

thunderandlightningg · 10/08/2021 15:29

I suppose people can call it as they wish, it's down to preference :)

LazyMareofEastown · 10/08/2021 15:45

excelled it has been my hardest piercing to heal and is also the one that gets caught on stuff the most so it's red and angry at me quite often even after 3 years 😟.

Meanwhile my tragus on the other ear has been the easiest piercing of them all. Has never given me a single issue. Even though it's in a v similar position. Weird!

crayray · 10/08/2021 18:04

Thanks for clarifying.

I personally really like the 'looked after ear' look.

tickledtiger · 10/08/2021 18:26

So glad that this has become fashionable now I’m a bit too old for it. I would have destroyed my ears and wallet for that Maria Tash jewelry a few years ago. I love the look but it’s not my style any more.

I have the same issue with my double forward helix which is only three months old but it has been the WORST so far regarding healing. Both have big bumps on either side and it frequently gets infected and so sore and swollen all the time.

None of my others have been this bad and my tragus which is a month old has been a dream too.

noblegreenk · 10/08/2021 19:22

@Duckswaddle

Curated is a very wanky way to describe a lot of ear piercings. But, I do have three lobe piercings in each ear (two studs and a hoop), a stud in my tragus on my right ear and one stud in my forward helix in my left. Thinking about possibly adding another smaller forward helix piercing in my left and a flat in my right. I think with a lot of pretty delicate jewellery it looks lovely.
Reading the OP the first thing I thought was what a wanky phrase!
rottd · 10/08/2021 20:47

@Kithic yes but somewhere like Maria Tash pierces you with the diamond stud initially, that's the difference.

I'm not arguing the word curated isn't annoying.

rottd · 10/08/2021 20:50

I would like more lobe piercings but my lobes are too small 😕
