What should a dumpy middle aged woman wear to a Manics gig? Help!

Summerhillsquare · 08/08/2021 10:22

I need help! Boyfriend (younger, cooler) has invited me to a gig. Manic Street Preachers! I love them, but it's years since I went out out like that, and no idea what to wear.

Just to add to my confusion lockdown/perimenopause has made me very tubby round the middle. I was never cool or stylish anyway, and now I am baffled. Help o wise ones.

Jeans, soft black shirt and converse. That’s what I wear to most gigs, so I can bounce around.

Nobody really looks at anyone else at a gig.

Have fun!

Deathraystare · 08/08/2021 10:27

Don't try to hard! Most people I reckon (said she who hasn't been to a gig for years!!) will wear jeans and a t shirt. If you are not comfy with that, then a tunic and leggings. Don't overdress!

mdh2020 · 08/08/2021 10:27

I agree with the above. Jeans or jogging, long black top and trainers/converse. Remember that apart from boyfriend, no one will be looking at you. Oh, unless you have an old MSP t-shirt? I wear old Springsteen t-shirts to concerts and get envious looks.

tabulemonade · 08/08/2021 10:34

Jeans, band or black tshirt, converse or vans. No bag or small bag that goes over your head so you don’t have to hold it. Have an amazing time!

Summerhillsquare · 08/08/2021 10:36

Thank you! Skinny jeans? Mom jeans? No longer have band t-shirts.

Not here to give recommendations on what to wear, but to tell you that I’m really jealous of you going to see the Manics.
(Jeans, t-shirt and cross body bag)

MegBusset · 08/08/2021 10:42

Where are you seeing them? I'm going to Cardiff and Cambridge :)

Anyway wear whatever you are most comfortable in - nobody will be looking at you least of all what kind of jeans you're wearing!

Pellewsmate · 08/08/2021 10:42

Earplugs?

OverByYer · 08/08/2021 10:44

Been to see them many a time myself, and as fellow middle aged woman I’d wear jeans ( I currently wear high waisted boyfriend jeans - from M&S!) T-shirt and maybe a sweatshirt if it gets chilly. Small cross body bag. Enjoy the Janice are great live

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 08/08/2021 10:44

I'm going to see them in Glasgow and Edinburgh. If you have any camouflage then you'll fit in well Grin

OverByYer · 08/08/2021 10:44

*manics

Summerhillsquare · 08/08/2021 10:52

Earplugs, yes! Last time I went a gig I had ringing in my ears for ages.

Camo is an idea, I like khaki. I do have a cross body bad with a dark chain, quite grungy but also chic, I think anyway.

It's in Newcastle. I'm amazed there are any tickets left

@OverByYer, ooh love the Janice 😁

@Summerhillsquare Whatever jeans you feel best in honestly. At gigs there are always such a massive range of people and styles but the I’m sure for the manics the vast majority will be in ancient jeans and older tshirts. After 18 years in skinnies I find the ASOS Stradivarius mom jeans with stretch the most flattering shape but it took trying on about 10 disaster pairs to find a good fit.

NeedNewKnees · 08/08/2021 10:54

Janice is my new favourite band 😂

LivingDeadGirlUK · 08/08/2021 10:55

Jeans or combat trousers, t shirt and trainers :) Have fun!

Summerhillsquare · 08/08/2021 11:00

Combats, I used to live combats.

Liking the sound of those Stradavarius jeans.

Mom/straight leg jeans, t-shirt, converse and depending on the weather maybe a cool leather jacket or military/cargo style jacket? And defo a cross body bag and converse. I’d strongly advise against wearing joggers or leggings and a tunic, sorry! You’re still young and you can still look cool and put together to go to a gig. Have fun!

AlCalavicci · 08/08/2021 11:01

I agree with PP jeans and a manics T-shirt if you go one or just an ordinary dark t-shirt
Make sure you got something comfy on your feet and something's gonna protect you from the evitable mess in the toilets and protect your toes from other people jumping up and down near you
(Steel toe caps might be a good ideaGrin )

OverByYer · 08/08/2021 11:08

All the cool kids love them
CommanderBurnham · 08/08/2021 11:14

Jeans, t shirt, belt bag or cool cross body. Shoes with big treads. Maybe eyeliner.

OverByYer · 08/08/2021 11:23

Yes never wear sandals to a gig.

Summerhillsquare · 08/08/2021 11:23

Oh yes. There will be ALL the eyeliner. Distracts from the bags.

A Janice t shirt

KittenKong · 08/08/2021 11:25

You jammy bugger!

I’m guessing it’s standing - so jeans, shoes you can stand in (and don’t mind getting trampled) and any old top I guess. It will be dark and hot anyway!

Small, light bag with essentials (I’m guessing it will be checked) at the entrance.
