First bra for pre-teen. Can anyone advise?

I've learnt so much from the adult bra intervention threads but can anyone advise on a bra for a 10 year old? DD has been wearing crop tops for a while but I'm wondering if it's time for a proper bra. Online calculators don't seem very suitable for young girls but I'm guessing she would be a 28B (27.5" band, 30" fullest part)? Should she be wearing a bra with these measurements and would this be the correct size.

Assuming this is the correct size, do I need to get her properly measured or should I just order a few styles and see what fits best? Our only options in the short term are M&S, a proper bra shop with bras starting at 30A or online.

I would stick with a crop top/bralette until she's bigger or she's complaining that she needs more support. That's what my DD has done. She's happier in a stretchy bralette.

I had my dd measured at M&S , the lady recommended teen Angel bras as a first bra they are soft & comfy

If you've measured her by the usual method (no adding inches to the band) then yes that'll be her size and you can just gomand buy.

M&S fit bras very, very badly (putting people in a band that's inches bigger than their actual size, and therefore needing to compensate for that extra with smaller cups)

But their actual bras are very good. I'd go for the Angel range too as it starts at 28 band (it's quite hard to find narrower).

Just don't go near a fitter there!!

We popped into town this morning and had a look in M&S but they don’t stock first bras. I’ll order a few from the Angel range to try - I’ve shown them to DD and she likes them. I think I’ll buy a couple then she can decide when she wants to wear a bra or a crop top. I’m still reeling from the trip to Clarks; size 6.5 at 10!

@MerylSqueak that’s the one we looked at online.

It's very soft and doesn't show through white school shirts.

Can anyone suggests where to buy crop tops for 10 yr old girl if she is not ready for Bra? Link of that would be great. Thank you

Next do first bras as do Asda, Dd wasn't a fan and prefers the crop top / bralette styles from Primark.

Bottleofstout · 29/10/2021 07:32

Next have a good selection of crop tops and trainer bras.

Bottleofstout · 29/10/2021 07:34

Meant to add, we bought a selection and tried them on. Sent the rest back. That way you know they fit properly, you can try them on in private and many changing rooms in shops are shut ATM anyway.

My daughter is a 27 C
I buy George t-shirt bras in 30 C and sew the band to the correct size for her.

My two are almost 12 now. Been in crop tops since 10ish and second one just went into proper bras yesterday in fact (first one is about 6 months further on development wise). We've gone for the M&S ones but fitted by trying on. Love them.

In terms of crop tops they liked primark ones and M&S ones the most - had a few from other places. One dd is very sporty and again M&S first sports bras have been great.

So actually M&S overall best place for us - my dds are skinny but seem to be following their mother in terms of boobiness.

Sainsbury's do a great range of padded bralettes. My 14 year old really likes them as they're so comfy and she says they are supportive enough.
