Help! 16 year old DD wedding guest dress! ?

Please can someone suggest a nice dress, suitable for a fancy wedding for a 16 year old. I'm at the end of my tether ordering and sending things back! Ahh!

She has tried a few and hates them all- too long, too frilly, too puffy sleeved, too revealling (my opinion), too pink, etc. the list of faults goes on.

She's a size 6, 5'5" and likes to be trendy- usually shops at urban Outfitters, Hollister, Pretty Little thing etc.

We want something trendy, but still dressy and not too 'old' for her or something skimpy she would wear to a teenage party.

www.silkfred.com/boutiques/mela-london/clothing/blue-and-white-flower-bardot-high-low-maxi-dress This with white trainers is gorgeous x

I love the stuff ChiChi has on their wedding guest list - I see you've already tried some of theirs, were they the ones that were too pink? Grin

this one's short but maybe too pink - the blue version I don't like as much but someone else might, while the pink is even pinker. (Also the first one is marked down which the others aren't)

I really like this one - not long, frilly, pink, puffy-sleeved or revealing. But quick, because there aren't many left (good thing she's a size 6)

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 06/08/2021 22:23

Or this one? (A bit white but personally I feel a 16yo could get away with it…)

My daughter recently wore a tailored girls tux to a wedding. She looked super sharp - might she consider that?

FreekStar2 · 06/08/2021 22:28

I love some of these ideas- the playsuit gets my vote! She's gone to bed now will show her in the morning!

Pink and frills and both on her NO list though!!!!

We're finding that dresses that appear short on websites are a bit longer in reality- guessing it's that the models are really tall whereas she is average height.

What about something like this from Zara?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 06/08/2021 22:33

My recommendation would be a jumpsuit.

Would she go in for something like this OP? With chunky flat sandals and layered necklaces like all the Instagrammers style it

FreekStar2 · 06/08/2021 22:44

@OxanaVorontsova I think she might like that!

Your DD sounds similar to mine who is the same age. How about this

If she's anything like mine, that would be OMG cultural appropriation!

Could you look for a short dress with a mesh overlay? A relative of mine wore something similar at about that age and it was lovely. Will see if I can link.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 06/08/2021 22:57

Like this, the underdress was short and party-ish (she took off the top layer after the ceremony) but the overlay was mesh midi and very nicely decorated with embroidered flowers, she looked gorgeous.

@FreekStar2 Good luck - I have twin 17yo daughters who are about as different as can be so I’ve been there!

My daughters buy a lot from this brand. It’s v young !

supermodel · 07/08/2021 00:32

My daughter wore a smart all in one culotte style for a wedding which was smart but also looked young.

Inastatus · 07/08/2021 09:27

My earlier suggestion might fail on the puffy sleeves. Just found this instead

Good luck.

I go swimming at a hotel and get to watch lots of weddings. The teenage girls all wear short dresses and they look really nice.

Sssloou · 07/08/2021 10:38

All of P&B short dresses are in the sale section:

FreekStar2 · 07/08/2021 17:32

Thanks for the Pull and Bear recommendation, we'd forgotten about them, ordered there before and liked. We've ordered this!! Fingers crossed it's nice- I think it is a crepe type of fabric as don't want jersey. I think it will look nice when dressed up with heeled sandals and a clutch.

It’s lovely.

Jerseygirl12 · 07/08/2021 17:34

Plus could be worn again.

FreekStar2 · 07/08/2021 17:48

Yes, that's what dd said- she can dress it down afterwards!
