Going into town next week for drinks and meal with 3 20 something daughters. We are doing a bit of shopping and a few drinks and then they want to get changed to go out for meal in evening and then bars and clubs. So please help me find something to wear that I at least feel OK in. So I am 55, size 16, 5'2, big boob and carry all weight on tummy so no waist. Shall I just stay at home and leave them all to it?

Definitely don't stay at home! You will have a fantastic time! Would you wear some jeans, a nice floaty top and some boots?

Or perhaps a midi dress with either sandals and boots?

In terms of brands have a look at Hush and Mint Velvet for a few options. Whistles is also lovely.

Whatever you wear make sure you feel great and have lots of fun!

DO NOT stay home. Im a similar size and height, not far off your age and I would be having a similar crisis, I don’t know what I’d wear, look on pinterest or instagram for inspiration. Search hash tags, maybe over 50’s fashion or something. I just want to say definitely go and enjoy yourself.

Jean and floaty tops definatly make me look short and dumpy, although most things do. My legs are not too bad if I fake tan them.

Would you feel comfortable in a dress like this?

Or perhaps something like this with a denim jacket over the top:

Also maybe ask them what they are wearing, not to match but so you know the “code”. If yhey are wearing dresses do you want to wear jeans and a nice too? Likewise if they are in jeans you don’t want to be over dressed

You're being far too hard on yourself! No-one else will think you look short and dumpy! You're neither of those things based on your measurements

They are all slim and gorgeous and will be wearing mini dress and docs, paperbag jeans with scarf tops and heels, that sort of thing. Very fashionable and on trend.

I'm 5' 6", size 16 with one massive boob and one not quite so massive after cancer surgery. I spent a very long time being hard on my self about what looked ok on me.

What I do now is wear clothes I like and feel comfortable in and stick with black tops and trousers, all of varying styles and wear fab fancy shoes to lift the outfit.

Would this work for you?

DialSquare · 06/08/2021 11:50

I'm a similar age and same height but a size 18. I have this dress in both colours and always get compliments. I've worn them with boots and strappy sandals and both look nice. I have the Large but they are oversized so the Medium may be fine for you.

Now I would never have chosen that dress as I don't like high necks and probably wouldn't wear for afternoon/evening drinks food in summer. However I'm tempted to order because what I do choose is not working, so, so maybe I need to get out of my comfort zone.

I wasn't sure when I first ordered but it was very flattering on so I ordered the other colour!

Imtoooldforallthis · 06/08/2021 13:03

I've ordered the off white one.

I ordered that one first! I wore it to a gathering at a friends house. At least 4 women asked where I had bought it.

Well done you OP for raising girls who want to go clubbing with their mum! It sounds such fun you MUST go.

Whether you do dress or jeans/smashing top I would recommend the most comfortable, well-broken-in heels you can manage, platform if necessary. In an atmosphere like that flats really are for gamine waifs. Heels will elongate your legs and help eliminate the “I’m dumpy” voice in your head. Bring them in a bag if you have to for the shopping (and make sure they’re already worn, not new! Wink).

Have an amazing time!

Imtoooldforallthis · 07/08/2021 06:27

Thank you, I'm sure they know I will bow out when it comes to clubbing. Will update when my dress arrives.

Does anyone know what cos delivery is like I ordered a dress last Friday, received confirmation but nothing since, it says delivery 3-6 days but I have received no tracking number.

OP posts:
DialSquare · 12/08/2021 11:56

I usually get a confirmation that it's with the delivery company on the day. Did you set up an account? I can track my orders on my account. It does usually take 5 to 6 working days though.
