Is it too late to be buying summer clothes now?

I hate summer clothes shopping at the best of times as they seem to get the least amount of wear in all my wardrobe.

If you hadn’t bought any by now would you bother with there being only 4 potentially warm weeks left of summer and seemingly 3 out of those weeks looks to be rainy?

I would buy one or two things I needed. You can always pack them away for next year in 4 weeks. I would buy a child's thing in the next size up.

I personally wouldn’t unless I had nothing suitable to wear or a special event coming up.

Summer clothes last me years, so I tend to look for things that I’m missing to fill The gaps.

So this year I’ve decided that I don’t have any everyday summer dresses so I’m looking out for them. Last summer with more WFH and a nicer summer it was shorts so I’ve got a couple more pairs of them.

I do love summer and I’m a sucker for a strappy vest top so I have to remind myself that I don’t live in the Caribbean.

No it's not too late, and the fact that I'm buying a second linen blazer in a month has no bearing at all on my answer Wink

CommanderBurnham · 06/08/2021 09:59

It's not too late, especially for bargains for next year.

MiaowMiaow99 · 06/08/2021 10:15

August is my cut off for full priced summer clothes. Anything I buy now has to be reduced due to the likelihood it may never get worn.

MiaowMiaow99 · 06/08/2021 10:15

Until next year.

billiebeeme · 06/08/2021 10:17

I wouldn't bother unless ur somewhere hot. If it end up being hot just go out an buy a few cheap bits to tide u over.

It's been rainy here for about a week and there already a pile of leaves in garden fallen from the big tree which had made me pretty depressed, summer on its way out 😢

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 06/08/2021 10:50

My mind is firmly on autumn now, so I wouldn’t. It’s lashing rain outside and I am currently curled up in bed with the cat - I’m on holiday, not WFH! - and a big mug of tea.

Edmontine · 06/08/2021 10:59

I certainly won’t be buying any. I’m struggling to find an opportunity to wear the one beautiful new Summer dress I bought months ago. Yesterday I felt quite chilly for a few minutes - and realised the shorts I’ve been stalking since the Spring probably just aren’t going to happen - because there’s no way they could be re-purposed for Autumn.

On the other hand I have two new Fair Isle jumpers deliberately draped on an open shelf so I can stroke them every time I go past.

Onfire · 07/08/2021 16:26

@Edmontine where did you get the fair isle jumpers? They sound lovely and much more my kind of thing Grin

Thinking of my summer clothes, most of them are wearable for most of spring and autumn too. Short sleeved tops with a cardi or jacket, dresses and skirts with tights and so on. I probably wouldn't buy something like linen shorts now but would happily buy a jersey dress or a t-shirt.

sadperson16 · 07/08/2021 16:57

I reckon theres about 2 or 3 good weeks left, then of course it will be baking early September.

Edmontine · 07/08/2021 17:01

Here. (Though one of mine was ordered during a pop-up A/W shop and isn’t on the website yet.)

Freely admit I’m obsessed with this brand at the monument.

herecomesthsun · 07/08/2021 17:02

Boden have 20% off their sale this weekend. Loads of it would be fine for autumn.

Duetorain · 07/08/2021 17:11

I find it hard advance planning. I understand the principle- get autumn clothes in Summer so they are ready to go when is actually cool but I just don’t feel organised or want to shop for warm clothes now.
My worst was long haul to India in November- need to plan really early to get clothes and usually forget.

Gufo · 08/08/2021 14:15

I had to buy some office-suitable sandals after over a year in bare feet/slippers! September can be warm, so I'd buy stuff I needed/liked even though it's late.
