Autumn looks

Now the weather has gone grey it's got me thinking about my autumn winter wardrobe. Last year I spent pretty much most of it in PJ's so want to make more effort this year!!
What kind of looks do you think will be in x and what are you going to invest in x

Maybe knee high boots will be back a bit more if worn with longer skirts.

I am really late to the hiking boot trend of 2019 but I recently got some gorgeous brown ones which look so weekend chic with slim mom jeans. Planing to wear them with linen shirt and huge Acne scarf for autumn. Coat tbd.

I'm hardly wearing dresses or skirts at the moment but, if I do, it'll be with flat, brown knee high boots - I went back to them a couple of years ago.

Floisme · 02/08/2021 07:52

Hesperatum if I had a big birthday coming up (or even if I didn't but was still office based) I'd be looking for a trouser suit: nothing very corporate but with a big blazer, and versatile that I could dress up or down.

Sooverthemill · 03/08/2021 08:41

I had a Sézane order arrive yesterday which I ordered early for autumn as I didn't want stuff to sell out. Really nice khaki trousers, a white short sleeved oversized shirt ( too big and I need smaller size) and a sweatshirt all of which will mix and match with older pieces. My loafer order from Penelope Chilvers has arrived and I'm also trying to decide upon a shirt from Wyse which I ordered and love but need to make sure will be wearable for several years. I am still slowly selling off summer stuff and making a pile of old winter things to eBay to fund all this!
I do have 3 pairs of knee high boots ( flat brown suede from 2005 but I love, flat chocolate leather from Hobbs which they do each year really and a higher Hobbs black leather) which should go with any winter outfit as well as far too many pairs of ankle boots. I try alway to buy 'classic' styles and my shoes and boots last me well. It's so easy to be drawn to 'one season wonders' but I'm trying!

Maybe knee high boots will be back a bit more if worn with longer skirts. I think with midi length or even mini if the proportion is right

MargosKaftan · 03/08/2021 21:41

I like knee highs with midi skirts, looks very 70s.

I'm after some tan brouges to wear with loose trousers and thin knits tucked in, a bit Audrey Hepburn.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/08/2021 21:48

I've got some tan brogues but only really wear them with tights and mini skirts. Need to try them with other things.

I've been looking for some khaki trousers for a while, but haven't found anything quite right yet. I don't want chinos, and it has to be the 'right' shade of khaki!

I can’t wait for autumn. I recently purchased a vintage cashmere coat - full length, oversized, navy, robe style and in perfect condition. So I’ll be working out some new outfits to wear with that. I have so much lovely knitwear already but will probably invest in new boots and jeans/trousers to update everything a bit.

For the knitwear fans, I’d recommend L’Envers, Babaa, Oubas, Genevieve Sweeney, Knotty Ones and & Daughter. If you don’t mind splashing out a bit.

Uniqlo have some nice floppy trousers - not sure what fabric but a jersey mix I think. They were called straight leg but looked quite wide to me. Also had lovely cords, again straight but with wideish leg. I’m going back to try both on tomorrow. I bought some wide leg jersey trousers from John Lewis abs they’re amazing. So comfortable but smart enough for the office as they can be dressed up with a belt etc. I bought some broguey type trainers and they look good with them.

MargosKaftan · 04/08/2021 07:43

@Houseplantmad - if you could link to the JL trousers I would be grateful!

Houseplantmad · 04/08/2021 09:23

@MargosKaftan here they are www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-partners-jersey-wide-leg-trousers/black/p4885726?size=12?tmad=c&tmcampid=7&s_share=jlappios_Y29tLmFwcGxlLlVJS2l0LmFjdGl2aXR5Lk1lc3NhZ2U=
John Lewis and partners jersey wide legged trousers.
They’re a lovely weight jersey abs so comfortable.

MargosKaftan · 05/08/2021 11:29

Those look nice.

All about the comfort this year.

WasThisSexist · 05/08/2021 21:56

This thread has done me some damage. Today I ordered these boots from Penelope Chilvers: penelopechilvers.com/campero-oiled-suede-boot-tan

Also this cardigan from Sezane; www.sezane.com/en/product/lola-jumper/coffee#size-M

And some seriously expensive cashmere 'lace knit' tights from Brora

All very much inspired by this thread!

Fuck it. We've hardly been out in eighteen months. I plan to dress well to reemerge into the world.

ChippyTea16 · 06/08/2021 02:09

I love autumn it’s my favourite season and my fave for dressing. I’m going to try not to buy too much new stuff as I have a wardrobe full of autumn clothes but some outfits I am planning to wear are:

-red tartan mini skirt and black roll neck jumper with tights and ankle boots
-black and white flippy skirt with chunky cream jumper (and tights and boots)
-dark green tartan dress over a thin knit green polo top
-black and white checked trousers with black t shirt, leather jacket and chunky black lace up brogue style shoes
-same trousers with chunky grey jumper and chunky snow boots
-black jeans, ankle boots and a variety of jumpers dressed up with belt and maybe my baker boy black cap

I can’t wait till it’s cold enough to wear these!

PeacheyPeach · 08/08/2021 21:20

So I tried on some of my winter skirts this morning. And Im now on the lookout for some amazing boots! In my head Im seeing a 1970s style, in tan and black

What sort of coat are people planning to wear?

I’m only 5’3, size 8 and basically live in chunky jumper, wide-legged jeans and DMs. Really love the oversized Dad coats but worried I’ll look like a dalek given my height.
