Silk shirt outfit - good or bad idea?

I'm trying to move away from jeans and I need some ideas for when I would have worn a "nice top and jeans". Going out for lunch, birthday parties, dinner with friends. I usually go with a fairly casual top, but I want to mix it up a bit and look a little more polished.

Would this silk shirt worn with plain black trousers look a bit overdressed / elderly? They have some lovely colours in it.

I love the idea of looking elegant and timeless but I've never pulled it off! I'm 40, a size 12-14 pear shape and I still dress like a teenager Blush

I have an old black shirt that I love, from M&S Autograph, but it's matte silk with a hidden placket and a sort of lived-in look. I wear it with pleated midi skirts for work or with jeans for going out. The only annoying thing about silk shirts is that you can only really wear them once and then they need washing and ironing again!

I like an over-sized black silk shirt worn loose with jeans or tucked into a leather pencil skirt.

Agree the ones in the link look a bit too neat.

Yes to rolling up the sleeves.

No to leather trews - it's just not a look I like.

I like a silk shirt but would recommend looking in Other Stories for maybe a slightly more up-to-date version.
I think shirts are generally smarter than t-shirts etc but still easy to wear

It’s classy, imo. I used to dress like that, back when I was a grown up.

Now, since pandemic, I wear cut off denim shorts, baggy t, Nikes … DH, who is a teacher, said the other day I dress like all the year 10 girls Grin

At 50 that’s maybe a bit sad. I salute your efforts OP
