I’m trying to pluck up the courage to chop my hair. It’s currently down to my boobs, but thin and not long after it’s trimmed it soon looks tatty again..I’d love to go shoulder length..has anyone done this..regrets at all?!
I know it grows back!

I went from long to shaved. Wish I'd done it sooner.
Shoulder length is nothing, it'll grow back in a year or so if you change your mind. Do it!

Ntwa · 26/07/2021 22:37

@thirdfiddle thanks! Glad you’re happy with yours! Currently watching lots of 40yr old plus hair vids!!

I've done it twice, had it really long for my wedding the got a bob, grew it out over lockdown and again went for a bob, it took about 3 years to fully grow out so your would probably only take about 18 months, a fresh chop always makes me feel good, I'm probably going to grow it to shoulder length now but i say go for it

Isabelle70 · 26/07/2021 23:14

I would go for it. Mine is thick with long layers, saw a photo the other week and it’s just hanging there. It’s booked in for a chop to the shoulders on Friday. I have my photo ready to show what I want, my hair from last September’

Darcymayx · 26/07/2021 23:16

Go for it my hair grew back really quickly tbh

MyOtherProfile · 26/07/2021 23:18

Definitely go for shoulder length. It will look thicker and neater. Long thin hair can be very aging.

Ntwa · 28/07/2021 10:04

Thanks all, excited yet nervous. About 3 inches needs to come off, but yes it will grow back!

Have you got an appointment? Good luck.

Ntwa · 28/07/2021 17:18

@MyOtherProfile yes, my friends my hairdresser..Just need to let her do it I guess!
Today I got caught in the rain and felt like I looked like a drowned rat..I just need to do it!!

Go for it. Shoulder length is a good change from long. It's easy to get stuck in a hair rut.

mumsymum25 · 13/08/2021 00:07

Long hair is boring. Go for shoulder length 🙂

tinselvestsparklepants · 13/08/2021 00:20

I had 16 inches off and got a Bob. Loved it. Do it!

Beachlovingirl · 13/08/2021 08:01

I have long fine hair and it looks fine after blow drying but then if look in a 3 way mirror I have some in front of my shoulders there is nothing at the back!

I am thinking of going half way between chin and shoulder (so there is a gap below hair) for winter but I’m worried it might make me look worse (square face - internet says no to shorter bobs for square faces)

Are your going for it op?

Janaih · 13/08/2021 08:06

Went from boob length thin straggly to blunt cut just resting on shoulders. It looks so much thicker and healthier and dare I say it, makes me look younger. Or maybe just made me look older when it was long lol. (41)

StarfishDish · 13/08/2021 08:22

I went from your length to shoulder length and absolutely hated it. It was hard to style, flicked up at the ends and made my face look so fat! Sad

SuperSketchy · 13/08/2021 09:12

Glad you're going for it! I love long hair, but sometimes you just need a good chop or to go the other way and get extensions for volume, if it's starting to look a bit ratty. I'm 37 and my hair has never looked healthy below collar bone length. I don't want to damage it with extensions so I keep it shorter. Mine's a little above shoulder length currently and I might grow it a few more inches, but I don't think I'll go longer.

mumsymum25 · 13/08/2021 10:29

@SuperSketchy I agree, sometimes a good chop is needed. At least 5-6 inches in my opinion but more if you want to. I would at least cut to the shoulders, but shorter if you want to.

Lovemusic33 · 13/08/2021 10:46

I’m almost 40, my hair started getting thin and breaking off, being unwell kind of finished it off so a few weeks ago I went really short pixie cut. I love it, it looks so much healthier and is easy to style and look after.

mumsymum25 · 13/08/2021 11:19

I think long hair just looks unhealthy

SuperSketchy · 13/08/2021 11:22

Some people have beautiful long hair. I love the look of it, but I am just, sadly, not one of those lucky people with the swishy hair Sad.

BikeRunSki · 13/08/2021 11:23

Age 47, I cut my hair from bra strap length to graduated bob. I love it, it’s very “wash n go”.

Nsky · 13/08/2021 14:54

My hair grows long, one of those things have an 80s edge love it, so easy too
