'Holiday clothes' what do you store for hot holidays?

I've cleared out most of my clothes and 'gone capsule' but kept a few 'holiday clothes' shorts/strapless dresses/extra tops. I have had another look and realised I don't like them as they are all dated and I would probably go shopping before holiday anywayConfused (which will probably be 2023 at this rate- no one will be wearing dresses with white trainers by thenGrin)

So what do have in your holiday clothes store that don't date or do you not have specific things and buy new as need?

Not very exciting, but each year I buy a pair of 5” chino shorts from J.Crew - have previously bought when in the US as much cheaper, but had to resort to ordering online (and paying extortionate postage) this year. Can dress them up or down, and while they aren’t the most exciting and not particularly ‘on trend’ I always feel good in them, and I don’t think they’ll date particularly.

Probably outing myself as not very up-to-date, and I never get enough wear out of hot-weather clothes anyway, but my holiday wardrobe includes white cotton capri-lenth trousers, cotton short-sleeved blouses (woven, not jersey), a pair of cotton printed trousers, a pair of cotton shorts, and linen jersey T shirts. Everything goes with everything else - blues, greys and white.

I have my happy drawer under the bed. •Bikinis
•linen kaftany shirts for over bikinis
•short shorts
•flippers and goggles
•flip flops
•sun cream
•graphic Ts
•Holiday only skincare like razors Blush and after sun
In the depths of winter I open it and breathe in happily.

Shorts - any that fit and I feel ok in get kept forever. Wafty hippy dresses. Vests. Swimwear.
None if these things gets that much wear so I keep for years and years.

Thin midi skirt that takes very little packing space for evenings
Strappy vests
bikini
Sarong
Thin kaftan style tunics
Flip flops
Shorts

Issey Miyake pleated skirt you can handwash and it's dry in half an hour in the sun. No creasing. You can get them for a reasonable price on EBAY.

Indian cotton block print sleevless dress

Vest tops.

All my linen clothes (long and short shirts, joggers, shorts)
Sundresses (tbh some are dated, I need a clear out)
Denim shorts
Couple of beach cover up type dresses (as I’d only wear these on a hot holiday)

A rail of floaty flimsy tops including my all time favourite top which I've never had occasion to wear in this country. It is very much languishing.

VerySmallPears · 24/07/2021 16:35

A collection of linen tops bought in the sale, some linen trousers, a couple of floaty skirts, a couple of dresses, Birkenstocks, chub rub shorts to go under the skirts and dresses. Then a bikini and a UV top, plus a pair of very lightweight shorty pyjamas. And a broad brimmed sun hat.

HelenHywater · 24/07/2021 18:47

I have a selection of cotton sundresses in my holiday pile. But that's it really. Maybe some short shorts too. Flip flops.

If they only last 1 season then they must be poor quality, no?

I have a variety of simple sleeveless linen dresses that are classic plain styles in white, black, navy, pale blue, coral, lemon, turquoise etc
I find dresses much cooler than shorts in a hot country
Then all I need to pack is underwear, swim wear toiletries and a few pairs of comfortable sandals
I also take a few linen shirts for cooler evenings or as pool/beach cover ups

RampantIvy · 26/07/2021 07:42

Why every year? My shorts last for years because I never get much wear out of them.

Boood · 26/07/2021 10:45

Beach dresses, and maxi dresses for evenings. Plus more bikinis and flip flops than anyone really needs.

Carycy · 26/07/2021 12:43

Short shorts with French connection oversize short sleeve and long sleeve shirts.
Cheap summer dresses. I liked tiered skater dresses and have a few from ASOS as can be specific in my search. Wear them in the evening at the start of a hol and double as a swimsuit cover towards the end.
A little broaderie anglais tie front bolero that I have had for ages and is great for popping on if I feel my shoulders burning.

ViciousJackdaw · 29/07/2021 15:17

No. I have no idea about the quality but I took that post to mean that Askin has several pairs, bought over the years.

gogohm · 29/07/2021 15:21

I've got bikinis, sarongs, beach bags, shorts, loose trousers and tops to protect from sun, hat, few dresses etc and keep in the spare room (well was spare until a child returned, haven't moved my stuff!) I do raid them if it's very hot as last week, even the bikini got a wear

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 29/07/2021 16:54

Vacuum bags under the bed

Daisy62 · 01/08/2021 17:38

Shorts that fit well - it takes ages to find any that I feel good in, so once I've got them I keep them indefinitely. Latest ones were from Target in US. A stretchy denim dress that is probably a bit young for me, but looks good for holiday evenings out. A sarong skirt thing bought when travelling. Bikini with matching playsuit. Cheap sparkly gold flip flops.
