practise run today managed to get lovely ringlets, and was very pleased with myself, but an hour later they had dropped out,

was her hair maybe not clean and bouncy enough?

How about washing it in the evening and tying it up in curl rags overnight? I used to do this for my youngest sister and it used to work a treat.

colditz · 25/11/2007 20:38

Run some mousse through it before you curl it.

MummyPenguin · 25/11/2007 22:55

How are you trying to curl it? Do you have GHD's or similar? My hairdresser recently showed me how to do it. Take sections of hair roughly an inch wide, put the irons in at the root, twist twice (hairdresser said where people go wrong is that they don't twist twice) and then pull the iron down the section of hair slowly. The slower you pull, the more defined the curl. I tried it on DD and I was a bit fingers and thumbs, and there's other hair that gets in the way, the hairdresser said it is quite easy but will take a few goes until you get the hang of it.

CarGirl · 25/11/2007 22:57

curls do drop, so lots of products and I too would recommend rags overnight

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:22

ok thanks all. i did get the ghd's out but didnt have a clue how to do it so i will try that, so 2 whole twists?

do i put mousse on dry hair or wet hair after washing, i thought about going to boots to see what i could buy for curls...

phoned hairdressers and it is £40.00 for them to do it..... ARGGGHHHHHHH

I think the dirtier the hair the longer the curls stay in

nailpolish · 26/11/2007 16:29

buy a root lift spray and spray the roots while hair is wet

comb mousse through wet hair

blast dry with hairdryer

curl around straighteners

then spray with hairspray

alternatively you couild use heated rollers

what i actually do is after ive blasted hair with hairdryer i spray each section with hairspray THEN curl round straighteners. i dont use mousse (but spraying with hairspray then curling round straighteners is apparently not good for the hair, so you might not want to do that to a young girls hair, on the other hand its only a one off so you might...)

slug · 26/11/2007 16:31

I rag rolled the sluglet's hair when she was a bridesmaid.

Do this the night before the event

We washed and dried it with a little mousse. Take sections of hair and tie a strip of soft cotton to the endwith a single knot. Roll the hair up until you reach the head and tie it off with another knot. Continue over whole head. Sleep on them overnight. Because you are using soft cotton, it feels fine, not lumpy at all. In the morning untie and let them drop out, gently removing the cloths from the end. I left the combing out till the final moment. they looked fine and lasted for a few days.

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:33

brill thanks

is curling with straighteners the best way to do it. i have ghd's and do you curl yours as previously suggested, i also have tongs?

so spray the section before curling? it is a one off so i am happy to do it for her....

then i guess spray after?

oh i wish she wanted it straightened!!!! i could do that

OP posts:
nailpolish · 26/11/2007 16:34

tongs might be best

hairspray is the secret ingredient! i have ver fine hair that curls drop out of after a second but if i use lots of elnett spray they stay in all night

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:35

with the rags do you roll it under or up towards the top of head, - sounds lovely just not sure i could do it, if i would have thought of it before i could have practised rags this weekend

OP posts:
slug · 26/11/2007 16:35

Have temporarily put picture of results of curling on profile page

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:36

i have that very spray!!!!! do you spray while curl hot or wait till cold?

thankyou

OP posts:
chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:37

thankyou slug, she looks very angelic, well worth the effort you put into the rags

OP posts:
nailpolish · 26/11/2007 16:38

root lift spray while hair is wet

blast with hairdryer til bone dry

take a section of hair, spray with elnett, curl with tongs

let curls hang til cool, then style with fingers and spray again

good luck!

if she really likes it you should get heated rollers, boots have them pretty cheap, and its much easier

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:40

nailpolish i am so gratful for you advice,
please if i may one last question, no 2 maybe

do i wash night before? and apply root lift

what is root lift spray? will it say that on bottle in boots?

thankyou thankyou thankyou

Actually if your dd is 10, she could try rag rolling out on her friends. A good activity for a girly party or sleepover methinks. Incidentally, it dosen't seem to make much difference, under or over. I just rolled them the easiest way for each section.

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:44

thanks slug, just metioned it to my mum, and she says me and my friend used to do each others, - rag rolling, i cant remember it

OP posts:
nailpolish · 26/11/2007 16:53

i usually wash my hair before doing it, but if your dd isnt bothered, the night before would be better, as CD mentioned further down

root spray itll say on t he bottle. just any old one will do from boots

chocolatespiders · 26/11/2007 16:58

brill thanks again i will go now and purchase... anything to not hand over £40.00 to hairdressers!!!
