Please help me find a wedding guest dress!

I've looked at so many that I can't even figure out what I like any more!

BIL (hopefully) getting married in Northern Italy in September. I'm guessing it will be warm.

I'm 5'8" and size 16, but a solid 16 with a decent waist. My go to is usually a 40s / 50s silhouette but they are either very form fitting or require a lot of stuff underneath so I don't think I'd be comfortable in the climate. I also don't want to look too fancy dress-y.

The couple and their friends are very cool. There will be lots of "for the gram" stuff. It's not my scene at all, DH and I are quite the black sheep.

I'd like something that would be comfortable in the heat that's a bit quirky or weird, without upstaging the bride. I love the Vampires Wife and Wolf & Badger but unfortunately my budget doesn't stretch to that.

Something wafty that shows off my waist ideally, midi or maxi, for about £150 max. I think I have seen every dress on the internet 🤣

Donald Stanley have some lovely 'create your own' dresses. They are on Instagram and have just launched their website x

Me & Em have a couple of nice maxis with a little bit of an edge if you want to look a bit cooler than usual. You can also rent dresses from designers you like eg

I’ve never brought from this site but the clothes are gorgeous. I’ve chosen threeI like. What kind of style are you aiming for?

mrssmiling · 10/07/2021 18:52

Have you looked at Monsoon evening dresses? Some lovely dresses, floaty, some with embroidery. Oliver Bonas might be worth a look too, and Gabrielle Parker. All within your budget. Might hiring work for you? Hurr have The Vampire’s Wife dresses. 😀

Ooh so many to look at!

I had thought about hiring but I am the clumsiest person alive and will spill down it / rip it guaranteed.

I had a wedding guest dress thread last month - there were some great suggestions including a link to a purple Sezanne dress (I had already bought two). Not sure how to link.

Bombshell dresses. There's a shirt dress on there that might suit your style.

Have you tried YAS?

@Ilovecardigans1980 - we have a winner!

I'm in love!

For the next outfit, the words "pool party" have been uttered, which strikes fear into my heart. I need to find a ginormous kaftan and some kind of silk turban, as well as enormous sunglasses.
