Grey with dark hair - unsure about light hair. Options?

I've always had dark hair, it just suits me and my skin tone.

The past year I've been struggling more and more with the greys coming through and standing out like a sore thumb.

So I've been slowly been going lighter and light to try and blend the greys without having that harsh line.

And while my colour atm is very nice (like a honey copper) and it is blending the regrowth well. It's a lovely colour, but I think perhaps not on me. I dont feel like me. I just dont think it suits me and skin tone.

I think I want to go dark again Sad but I think I'll need some kind of compromise to blend the greys at the top.

Any suggestions for a good compromise? Reverse ombre? Dip dye? What colour combos would look good?

Please help!

Are your eyebrows still dark? Sometimes if there is a significant difference the clash between hair and eyebrows can throw off your whole appearance, especially if your eyebrows are fairly heavy.

If this is the case, you can also bleach and then recolour your brows a lighter brown

It’s probably not about the colour but the tone.

You need an ash colour for cool colouring and a warmer colour for warmer colouring.

I'm naturally quite fair, that kind of was blonde as a child and went to a non description dark blonde mousey brown type colour, so my eyebrows are fairly light.

The dark hair came from a box Grin and maybe it is just because it's what I'm used to.

Skin tone is apparently cool/neutral (according to Boots match I'm a cool vanilla and in EL double wear I'm 1N1 ivory nude) so I am on the paler side.

Thanks everyone for your replies, sorry I wasnt clear that it was dyed dark rather than natural!

I have naturally dark brown hair and wear calico/cool vanilla depending on season (cool vanilla is my tan 😂). I went to a hairdressers and told her I wanted to go lighter but was worried about maintenance, greys and my fine hair getting damaged. She suggested a balayage which would only need to topping up every 3 months and said that when my hair is very grey, she'd look at adding a root smudge but for now, the lighter lengths would make my greys less noticeable. She was absolutely right. I think even a darker balayage would help blend the greys because it has more dimension than a flat colour.

I've attached some pics- the before (natural colour), a couple of days after the balayage and about 11 weeks after with just a weekly purple mask since as maintenance.

Excuse the before, it was a photo for Dermatica so not very hair focussed!

Thanks @MilduraS, I really appreciate the photos. Your hair looks lovely in those photos. Did you find it took some getting used to that change in colour?

Maybe I could ask for a balayage, rather than hughtlights

I agree its tone that's the issue, honey is too warm for you. I went from dark brown to my natural white (brows still dark brown) and it look fine against my skintone but in getting there I used lighter colours and definitely made the mistake of choosing something too warm for my colouring. I'm a pale olive but with a cool/neutral tone. Ashy shades worked much better.

Thanks @UthredofBattenberg. For the first few weeks I kept forgetting about my new hair colour and getting a surprise every time I looked in the mirror. Other people got used to it much more quickly. It's been about 9 months and a friend commented that she'd forgotten my hair was dark until she spotted an old photo on her phone. I have blue eyes as well as pale skin so the blonde looks more natural than my real hair colour.
