Help with a dress for DM for DF's funeral

catinboots21 · 09/07/2021 17:15

Dad sadly passed away and funeral dress shopping is a nightmare.

Traipsed around every shop in town today and couldn't find what mum wants. We think we have the idea of the 'perfect' dress but I just can't find it for her

Black. V necked. Maybe wraparound. On or just below the knee. Sleeve anywhere between cap and 3/4 - not long sleeved. Fitted but not ridiculously so.

She's a size 12/14 pear but only about 5ft so possibly petite range. I'm exhausted staring at black dresses on the internet and starting to go black dress blind

I thank anyone in advance who can help. Oh and budget up to about £200

Sorry for your loss. How about Winser - either direct from their website or from John Lewis - see link (photo is blue but it comes in black too)

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 09/07/2021 17:21

...don't think the link worked but just look on their site for a black v necked Winser dress.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Hope you can find something

Could this work - it's short but it might be knee length at her height

Truthfully, I'm not sure any of them are what you need but I'll keep looking

Sorry to hear about your dear dad. Have you looked at Boden online, they do a petite range. The Eleanor, Lola and Francesca dresses might be suitable.

HuntingoftheSnark · 09/07/2021 18:03

DM bought a long sleeved, V necked just below knee length much as you describe dress from L K Bennett when my father died three years ago. With a purple coat (it was colder than now).

YouokHun · 09/07/2021 18:07

So sorry about your Dad, I was in your position back in April. I don’t know about your DM but for my DM who had spent the previous 60 years making joint decisions, even the decision about what clothes to wear seemed impossible - it’s a bewildering time Flowers . I imagine there isn’t much choice in the shops in July.

I can’t offer any ideas except to second the Winser mentions by PPs, but wanted to wish you well at such a tough time.

HelebethH · 09/07/2021 18:32

Hobbs have several black dresses. Sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope your Mum finds something suitable.

catinboots21 · 09/07/2021 18:42

Thank you every one I have sent mum all the links

You are all so lovely and helpful

Flowers I’m very sorry for your loss.

Have you thought about navy or charcoal or does your mum feel strongly that it should be black? Only because it’s very common now for people to wear dark colours rather than just black (it still comes across respectful and sombre) and that might make your search a lot easier.

catinboots21 · 09/07/2021 19:12

No I think she would be fine with a dark charcoal or navy. I've got my boys charcoal chinos and pale grey polo tops so we're not formal formal

I've just ordered a nice maxi online but may need help with shoes - another thread maybe Grin

Can you post the maxi photo

Shadedog · 09/07/2021 19:19

I’m 5foot 1 and size 12 and I have this dress in petite. It’s really flattering and has pockets. It’s longer on me than it is on the model, even in petite. It’s jersey which she may feel lacks formality.

Remember you will be on your feet a lot and, if it's a burial, also walking on grass. I would go for flats, or at least have a pair of flats with you.
catinboots21 · 09/07/2021 21:58

This is the maxi I've ordered for me.

Pretty much the same brief as for mum but maxi - she's got better legs than me Grin
