So after buying about 4 or 5 budget priced mascaras & then being crap and the fact that my favourite mascara, which ironically wasn’t expensive at all has been discontinued- I’m looking for a decent replacement. I was lulled into a false sense of security I suppose with my favourite mascara, believing that you didn’t have to pay much for a great mascara, but so far I tried - the one from Wilkos, princess or something, max factor false lash, L’Oréal millions, a Rimmel one (cant remember which one) maybeline sensational and a collection one. They all either smudge or turn clumpy.
My favourite one was the CYO from Boots it was about £6, £3 if on offer and bloody amazing! But it’s discontinued.
I have never paid over £11 or £12 for a mascara & have now found out that next actually sell high end ones like ysl, mac, benefit, Clinique, Dior so is it worth paying that little extra? Looking for length & volume! Recommendations pls!

Also, try wiping the brush with a tissue when you first open it, get the mascara right off it then put back in and use from there. I often find that it has settled in the tube and stuck to the brush so I just wipe it off. Never fails.

Roche posay respectissme is what I swear by, it's practically the only thing that stays on. It separates and extends, doesn't move and you feel like you have nothing on! Clinique was great too, hated they're real by benefit, was gutted as everyone loves it but I found it made my lashes look stubby and it was clumpy. Lancome (think it was the baby doll one)was the same as was Dior showstopper. Was heartbroken and irritated by all as I get my mascaras with birthday vouchers!! But yes, roche posay. I have a horrible feeling they're phasing it out though!

Lancôme Hypnose. I’ve tried loads of cheaper versions and none come close.

Justmuddlingalong · 29/06/2021 17:54

I tried the Maybelline Lash Sensational in waterproof black. Used it once and ordered another one straight away. I have fair, shortish, straight lashes so need all the help I can get. After years of trying different brands and formulations, I'm really happy with this one.

Rimmel extra super lash.
I've literally been repurchasing since the 90s.

Partypoooooper · 29/06/2021 18:22

I've always found No7 from boots mascara pretty good without spending a fortune.

Branleuse · 29/06/2021 18:25

essence at wilkos do one called "no more panda eyes" which is pretty good for a cheap one.

Avon powerstay is my favourite at the moment

FindingMeno · 29/06/2021 18:26

I use a cheap but surprisingly good rimmel mascara.
What has made a difference for me is using a lash treatment first that works as a primer, eyelash curlers and doing 2+ coats.
I really want eyelash extensions though.

Boood · 29/06/2021 18:36

Max Factor are usually good, but the False Lash Epic needs to be avoided. It has a stupid brush that makes it impossible to apply- smudges and clumps and won’t let you get in to the roots. Just awful.

Prettybubblesintheair · 29/06/2021 18:38

I love the huda beauty double ended one. Stays all day, no smudging or crumbling.

nevernotstruggling · 29/06/2021 18:43

Benefit roller lash for me. I've tried all the benefit ones and I only like this one.

What lash treatment did you use please?

My Holy Grail is Dior Pump and Volume. I had tried drugstore, cheapo and high end before I started using this. The best drugstore was a Maybelline with a brush at either end of the tube.
Tried: Benefit They're Real- Real down my face like a panda in half an hour and smelled really odd.
Clinique High Impact- not bad but no podium
Lancome Hypnose- no idea why it gets such rave reviews.

I'm currently using a Lancome Monsieur Big which I got in a gift set and it's got my silver medal.

The gold still belongs to Dior P&V though!

Oh by the way want to try a few loreal, telescopic and also Paris voluminous, both meant to be wow! Also want to try the one with the double wand. Might go mad on a boots 3 for 2 sometime!!!

FindingMeno · 29/06/2021 22:43

@superstar63 I use the Eveline cosmetics 8 in 1 eyelash growth serum. It leaves a whitish coating on your eyelashes and I find it helps thicken and lengthen them when I follow it with mascara.

Thank you, I have ordered it and the reviews seem very good. Fingers crossed!

Another vote for lancome hypnose.

MiloAndEddie · 30/06/2021 15:30

Estée Lauder double wear rebel. Will not budge for love nor money, really black, non rubbery brush.

The Dior pump and volume one - is it waterproof? Or at least doesn’t smudge or run easily?!

Zparks · 30/06/2021 22:34

following with interest… I’ve yet to find the holy grail show-stopping and smudge-resistant mascara but the Collection one mentioned above is cheap and pretty good for day to day use. No idea why Lancôme is so popular as the ones I’ve tried have all been rubbish!

DGFB · 30/06/2021 22:51

Another vote for Lancôme

MissTrip82 · 01/07/2021 02:45

Too Faced Better Than Sex
YSL Faux Cil

I keep coming back to those two (they’re expensive) but have also tried: Lancôme Hypnose; various Maybellines; various Benefits; Clinique; Estée Lauder; Chantecaille.

I’d like to try the Essence mascara Nigella recommends but it’s been sold out here when I’ve looked.

Lizgal · 01/07/2021 07:32

Victoria Beckham’s is my fave

legosnowqueen · 01/07/2021 08:56

I love Lancôme Hypnose...

NotMyCat · 01/07/2021 09:44

Another vote for tarte lights camera lashes

harryandmarv · 01/07/2021 19:06

Thank you all for your recommendations! So after much thought, I went with Benefit Roller Lash. I’ve only used it once this morning & so far so good, it was just a quick sweep though as I was in a bit of a rush.
