24-wash hair dye - won't wash out!

So at Christmas I put on a box dye, semi permanent, 24 washes. 6 months later and waaaay more than 24 washes, I've got about 2" regrowth and loads of colour. It's a very marginal auburn/light brown shade, not far from my natural colour (apart from the few greys) but I can see The Line.

My hair has never been lightened, can I use one of those colour stripping kits? Will that bleach my hair or take it back to my usual mouseiness?

Are there any other tricks to remove it?

Or do I grow it out/radical haircut/keep dying as my greys aren't actually that bad and I'm too young to have grey hair anyway (45)?!!

It's probably not dye that's left but that the semi-permanent product contained hydrogen peroxide, and that will have lightened your hair.

If the box dye had 2 products you had to mix together then it will be permanent rather than semi-permanent (despite what the box says). The developer will have caused the result you're currently seeing.

If you're patient and happy with your natural hair, just grow it out.
