As its freezing but I want to wear my lovely summer dresses. Arsing weather.

O course you can, boots too.

Scarby9 · 24/06/2021 17:48

I did yesterday, and am today.
Summer frock, black woolly tights, cardigan done up to the neck.
Still cold, but I am NOT putting the heating on at home this close to the summer solstice!

IHaveBrilloHair · 24/06/2021 17:50

Yep, ankle boots too.

SummaLuvin · 24/06/2021 18:10

Disclaimer: before I get the inevitable "people should wear whatever makes them happy" comments, you have asked this on a style forum, with that in mind I will give you my opinion on whether this looks nice objectively.

If it's not warm enough to wear a summer dress then don't wear it, pairing it with something obviously for winter like wooly tights looks quite silly. The two pieces will not go together at all. You would be better off with jeans with a spring/summer blouse like this if you want to feel more summery - www.asos.com/river-island/river-island-floral-volume-sleeve-button-front-blouse-in-blue/prd/23624724?ctaRef=my%20orders

Wearing seasonally inappropriate clothes or pairing clothes from obviously different seasons is like ill fitting clothes - in my opinion they ruin outfits and look off.

Overthinker19 · 24/06/2021 18:54

No you can’t. Agree with pp

xksismybestletter · 24/06/2021 18:55

I'm a no. I also don't like it when primary school children do this. Thin summer dresses and wooley grey tights.

Agree with all of this
Watchingthetelly · 24/06/2021 19:13

Another no from me. I think summer dresses and opaque tights look dreadful together. Agree with @SummaLuvin suggestion of jeans and a blouse as a stylish option.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/06/2021 19:19

Woolly tights - absolutely not.
Opaque tights - possibly, but it depends on the dress.
Sheer black tights or nude tights - probably.

EllaPaella · 24/06/2021 21:21

I agree with @SummaLuvin

user1493494961 · 24/06/2021 21:40

I think it would look a bit daft.

PersonaNonGarter · 24/06/2021 22:10

Counterpoint to pp about mixing seasons. I am a big fan of the big- fisherman’s-jersey-over-floral-dress look. It can really look romantic and free spirited.

Stichintime · 24/06/2021 22:14

Had certain families who put their kids in summer dresses and tights, it just seems wrong. If it's warm enough for summer dress, it's bare legs and a cardi if needed. If it's too cold for bare legs, it's too cold for a summer dress!

^ This 100%

DancingKitten · 24/06/2021 22:46

There's some summer dresses you could do this with but probably not across the board.

I wear leggings under a few of my floaty summer dresses, with dainty flat sandals (aiming to pull off a casual bohemian look) but it depends on length of dress (mini but volumous, or maxi/midaxi - but definitely not knee length or just below the knee) and also I'd only wear them with dresses with sleeves, definitely not on any form of sleeveless dress. That would be very wrong.

Naggety · 24/06/2021 22:47

I vote no for the reaons given above but it is sweltering where I am so can't even imagine wearing socks. How cold is it?!

Nitgel · 25/06/2021 10:44

Its really cold but also changes every 5 mins. I am so bored of jeans

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 25/06/2021 11:17

I went to a party outdoors in the rain a few weeks ago, it wasn't "cold cold" but not exactly pleasant sitting under gazebos. I wore a long summer dress with a thermal top (sleeves folded back), cycling shorts and my MIL lent me a short petticoat Grin I was toasty warm!

midsummabreak · 25/06/2021 11:27

It’s in the eyes of the beholder. Some will judge as not a good look, others will admire. Enjoy wearing your wooly tights with your favourite dress. I think people who dress with confidence to purposely break style rules look amazing and are a welcome breath of fresh air.

newnortherner111 · 25/06/2021 12:34

Yes, why not? Your choice and you have explained why you don't want to wear jeans.

Kanaloa · 25/06/2021 12:37

You can of course if you want to. I wouldn’t because I don’t think it would match.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 25/06/2021 23:25

You know what? The more I think about this, the more I think - fuck it. Wear what you want.

dayslikethese1 · 26/06/2021 00:41

I think it depends on the tights...

Definitely agree with this. Mixing 2 things from different seasons can look good. I don’t think woolly tights sounds quite right but footless tights often work.
