I mean it’s fine, but it’s so ubiquitous isn’t it? Why?

Same with every trend to be honest

PersonaNonGarter · 17/06/2021 17:47

I don’t wear it (so over it yeah) but as trends go it’s quite cute and practical.

groundedagain · 17/06/2021 17:48

Plus many of us dressed like that as a teenager so I think some people don't change their dress sense that much. I haven't, still love a hoody for example!

Electricmouse · 17/06/2021 17:50

I don't know, but I'm not their friend. I think it looks awful.

RampantIvy · 17/06/2021 17:50

Which is why my trainers aren't white. I'm 62 and would look rather try too hard in white trainers with my lovely dresses. I did ask DD's (20) opinion, and she wrinkled her nose and told me not to buy white. So I bought some grey Converse lookalikes instead.

Redyellowpink · 17/06/2021 17:50

Not this again

Getoffmyhat · 17/06/2021 17:51

I've been thinking this for ages. I think it's awful but each to their own. I remember about 15 years ago lily Allen was doing this.

Happyhippy99 · 17/06/2021 17:51

Looks great if you’re tall and slim. Looks awful if like me, you’re short and fat.

Miseryisabutterfly · 17/06/2021 17:52

I’m not offended by it, I just don’t understand why it’s everywhere when there are nicer (IMO) and just as comfortable options available. Even trainers in a different bloody colour would add interest.

I mean trainers are pretty ubiquitous in general these days.

groundedagain · 17/06/2021 17:54

People love a white trainer in Summer though. I've worked in shoe buying for years & white always sell the best in summer.

Miseryisabutterfly · 17/06/2021 17:55

They absolutely are @groundedagain and I love them. But there are so many different kinds to choose from 😂

😂😂 same here
LubaLuca · 17/06/2021 17:58

It's comfortable and practical, and mundane enough to be worn without standing out from the crowd.

I've never worn trainers and a dress together, but I think women that do usually look nice and carefree.

Letsgetreadytocrumble · 17/06/2021 17:58

It's super comfy whilst also looking stylish, put together and pretty flattering on most people and if you think about it, for a woman, that's quite unusual isn't it? Therefore it's a popular look. I love it, my collection of midi dresses to wear with trainers is expanding by the week!

Beebopawhop · 17/06/2021 17:58

I've tried it and haven't felt comfortable...maybe wrong type of white trainer but I have issues with my feet (hate to show them fungal etc ) so for me white trainers yay or any in fact but with dresses and I am short it doesn't quite fit it so jeans and trainers all the way for me...

groundedagain · 17/06/2021 18:00

I have about 20 pairs but only certain pairs will I wear with dresses.

miltonj · 17/06/2021 18:00

I never really see people wearing white trainers and dresses (apart from myself)! Maybe it's not a thing where I live.

groundedagain · 17/06/2021 18:01

Having said that I've been living in clumpy ugly sandals but they are also ubiquitous

legalseagull · 17/06/2021 18:03

I love this look. I feel feminine yet also cool, slightly edgy but comfortable. What's not to love about feeling attractive AND comfortable. Feminist dream. Death to heels!!!

londonmummy1966 · 17/06/2021 18:05

Wasn't the original trend a Cath Kidston/Cabbages and Roses thing using old school white plimsolls that morphed into converse and then into trainers?

I was helping at a busy Pfizer clinic yesterday and about 80% of the girls coming through were in floral dresses or playsuits and white trainers. Thought they looked rather nice tbh.

I no longer care. It's comfortable and practical. I love espadrilles but I have really painful plantar fasciitis so I wear these as I can fit my orthotics into them: these

The right type of dress and hem is key, too. I have really nice legs so choose a knee length, swingy dress, skater type dress or like this
this

TomorrowsPrincess · 17/06/2021 18:07

Women can wear what they want, they don't need anyone to decide if it's a 'good idea'

Miseryisabutterfly · 17/06/2021 18:09

I love my white converse with a dress Grin wore a dress/converse to a bbq at the weekend and then a different dress/same converse the day after. Love it.
