I mean it’s fine, but it’s so ubiquitous isn’t it? Why?

Grin brilliant!!

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 17/06/2021 19:48

@TooTiredForToday

I think it instantly ages the wearer

To somewhere between toddler and deceased? I have seen this look on every age.

To clarify, cute on a young child/teenager but screams frumpy older lady beyond that.

And that's fine, we're all free to wear whatever we want but it's not a look I'm aiming for personally!

MolyHolyGuacamole · 17/06/2021 19:48

My husband who is very into clothes and style thinks it looks terrible.

Omg your HUSBAND?! Quick, let me run back in and change

RaRaRasputinLoveMachine · 17/06/2021 19:48

^ that was meant for @Classica you made me laugh!

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 17/06/2021 19:49

@Permanentlytiredout

I think it can look great on some people but not so good on many. Looks particularly awful on me, as though I’ve been dressed by a care assistant who loathes me.
You've put into words what I couldn't!! Grin
AlohaMolly · 17/06/2021 19:49

What about me? I’m tall and fat Grin I love a dress but live in the mountains and the school run is up a bastard hill. I injured my knee a few months ago so live in trainers. This year I plan on treating myself to a decent converse/converse look a like, as long as I find one with actual decent soles! My current trainers are clumpy actual trainers, not fashion trainers. They were white to start with…

Ozanj · 17/06/2021 19:50

Trainers / plimsolls with everything has always been my style. I hate heels so only bring them out on special occasions

warmandtoasty2day · 17/06/2021 19:52

i don't like trainers but i wear dresses /skirts with doc marten boots, have 6 pairs in various colours, i'm a recycled x3 times over teenager meGrin

amymel2016 · 17/06/2021 19:52

Oh god, there are men wearing jeans and trainers everywhere as well, it’s so ubiquitous, why??

groundedagain · 17/06/2021 19:55

British fashion is not great imv but people follow to be seen as on trend.
It's sad imv. You don't get this in the US or Europe, there people wear what suits them first and fashion second.

Are you saying US fashion is better?

TedMullins · 17/06/2021 19:56

It’s great. I wear trainers or vans with everything. I personally think ballet flats, strapping sandals, slim loafers, any kind of flat shoe trying to be smart looks way more frumpy

EllaPaella · 17/06/2021 19:59

@Redyellowpink

Not this again
Yep, another thread full of sneery comments criticising how other women choose to dress.
ExhaustedGrinch · 17/06/2021 20:00

I either wear trainers with a dress or don't wear the dress at all because I can ONLY wear trainers due to Morton's Neuroma anything else just aggravates it and then I can be suffering for months. Luckily I like how it looks and it's easier to opt for white trainers because they go with everything, if I chose different coloured ones I'd need several pairs to go with different dresses and I can't be bothered faffing with that.

groundedagain · 17/06/2021 20:00

The shops have very samey stuff these days & the influence of social media is huge, as far as trends are concerned. Nobody had their own look.

I agree in part to this. When I was a tween/teen there were different looks & adults generally dressed differently to 15 yr olds. Shops tended to have their own identity, so Oasis was different to Miss Selfridge. I blame the boho trend for starting the homogeneity though.

Nightbear · 17/06/2021 20:00

I have a dog that stands on feet. Anyone who stops to make a fuss of them puts their shoes at risk. I’m just happy if there are fewer canvas clad feet about - there’s more chance of a muddy paw print wiping off a trainer.

Maggiesfarm · 17/06/2021 20:06

I think they look quite nice actually.

khakiandcoral · 17/06/2021 20:09

It's a trend, it will pass.

I like it, I think I have 4 pairs of white "city" trainers (as opposed to my sports trainers). So much nicer than horrible ballet shoes, but they'll make a come back too one day.

I still remember the long dress + Dc Martens boots trend. That was slightly less practical.

Who cares if everyone is wearing the same?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 17/06/2021 20:10

I would like to thank them.

Love the look-so much better than so many trends and kind to all ages and sizes because of so many dress options

TopTabby · 17/06/2021 20:13

My husband who is very into clothes and style thinks it looks terrible.
Did you really just post this? Grin

DandelionRose · 17/06/2021 20:15

It's practical. White trainers are summery (unlikely to wear them in winter with all the rain/puddles/mud), and go with most dresses/colours. Also they keep your feet warm on days when it's too chilly for sandals. And they are comfortable, and they make a tea dress look a bit more casual than shoes. Lots of reasons.

speakout · 17/06/2021 20:15

Far better than dresses with high heel shoes.

khakiandcoral · 17/06/2021 20:18

Or far better than skinny jeans with heels! Even Kate Middleton didn't quite manage to pull that one off.

scrivette · 17/06/2021 20:18

I love the look, especially a denim or short shirt with a chunky white trainer.

enjoyingscience · 17/06/2021 20:19

@khakiandcoral god, absolutely. I’m over heels for life now. They do not look good.

speakout · 17/06/2021 20:19

My husband - who likes to think himself sylish with a military flair went to work today wearing one loafer and one paint splattered croc.
Only noticed on his way home.
