Who decided that white trainers and dresses was a good idea?

I mean it’s fine, but it’s so ubiquitous isn’t it? Why?

White is so impractical too.🤷

Eaumyword · 17/06/2021 18:13

I love it! Cute and practical!

ElspethFlashman · 17/06/2021 18:17

I think it looks cute with smaller shoes, like low Converse or Supergas....basically tennis shoes.

With clumpy leather ones you look like you've got two big white golf clubs sticking out of the end of your dress.

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 17/06/2021 18:21

I’ve never worn white trainers. I don’t think you’d be able to tell where my legs ended and the trainers started as I’m so pale!

FuzzyPuffling · 17/06/2021 18:21

Every (flipping) time this subject come up I say I like it.

so...

I like it.

BraxtonChic · 17/06/2021 18:22

I love it, have "problem" feet and need arch support and stability, so summer footwear has always been a struggle. I currently have some white Adidas and they are super comfy for wearing all day.

I prefer a just below knee length skirt or dress as that suits me better than the typical midi length.

It's great to able to wear something fashionable (even if slightly done to death Grin) and be comfortable.

boireannach · 17/06/2021 18:22

Oh dear god how fuckin puerile 🙄

limesoda · 17/06/2021 18:25

Also, and I know I'm in Ireland so its colder than over the water, it isn't a Summer trend that requires you to freeze to death.

lazylinguist · 17/06/2021 18:26

I don't think it's any worse an idea than most trends tbh. And trends are, by their very nature, kind of ubiquitous.

romdowa · 17/06/2021 18:30

You forgot about the denim jacket that goes over the dress 🤣🤣 I do enjoy white canvas shoes and a dress though, its so easy to just throw on and go.

RaRaRasputinLoveMachine · 17/06/2021 18:32

I’ve got to say, it looks frumpy to me. It’s ok on teenagers/young 20 somethings ... but even then they‘d look better in something else.

My husband who is very into clothes and style thinks it looks terrible.

groundedagain · 17/06/2021 18:32

And in colder months you just swap the denim for leather & trainers for boots. Another ubiquitous look that's been around for years.

ProfessionalWeirdo · 17/06/2021 18:33

I'm often asked: "Weirdo, why do you always wear trousers?"

My response: "One reason: shoes. I can't walk in high heels, and I have yet to find a pair of comfortable shoes that look good with a dress or skirt."

RaRaRasputinLoveMachine · 17/06/2021 18:33

Also got to say I’ve nothing against a dress with trainers. Tea dresses and tennis shoes are very cute.

It’s just the billowing longish dresses with clumpy white trainers that I think look awful

^^ THIS.
groundedagain · 17/06/2021 18:36

I don't subscribe to the school of thought that clothes/shoes have to be flattering though. Something might not make you look as slim but that doesn't mean you don't good.

MrsTophamHat · 17/06/2021 18:36

It's nice to have an option in summer that you can wear socks with.

In previous years i'd be alternating between sandals, ballet flats and brogues and the sock issue was a constant annoyance. Trainers with a discreet pair of decent trainer socks are just so comfy.

OlivePenderghast · 17/06/2021 18:37

I always thought it was Lily Allen who started it…

Fabuleuse · 17/06/2021 18:38

You know how you sometimes see older ladies who have clung to a fashion from a few decades ago because it's their "look" and they've never changed it? That'll be me with long dresses and trainers FOREVER (apart from depths of winter). I pretty much never want to wear anything else ever again.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 17/06/2021 18:39

My husband who is very into clothes and style thinks it looks terrible.
Oh EVERYONE a man has told us it is terrible, let us put our dresses and trainers into hiding and dress how the men insist. Hmm

Looks great if you’re tall and slim. Looks awful if like me, you’re short and fat.
Speak for yourself. I’m short and fat and look fucking mint in dresses and trainers. Confidence makes any outfit and I don’t give a fuck if I’m not a willowy woman, I’ll wear what I want!

MaybeCrazy2 · 17/06/2021 18:39

Because you can only wear white trainers in summer.

Who cares what some random man thinks about what other people wear?

BRAVO!!
flippertygibbit · 17/06/2021 18:43

I don't own any trainers so probably not the best person to comment but to be truthful, I don't care what anyone wears so long as they've got clothes on (outside their house anyway) ......
