Haircut today - first time in a salon in 5 years! What shall I have done??

Have been cutting/colouring my own hair for years after endless disappointing "mum" cuts that bore no reflection to what I'd asked for.

Hair is medium texture, loads of it. I usually wave it with straighteners but there's so much if it it's becoming a pain in the arse. Ends are a bit fried.

Don't know what to do with my fringe. Every time I grow it out I feel not like me anymore and cut it back in.

The ubiquitous blunt lob feels like a safe bet. Looks good when worn wavy. I don't mind spending 15 mins on a morning doing it.

If I had more nerve and a cooler job I'd get a modern shag maybe like the pics attached. Worried I might look a bit like I'm in Def Leopard though.

What would you get?

I would lighten it up by having lots of longish layers put in, and I would also have them thin out your fringe.

Miseryisabutterfly · 17/06/2021 10:07

Your hair is gorgeous. There’s so much of it! I think a shag would look amazing

LazyMareofEastown · 17/06/2021 10:32

Thanks both.

I'm afraid of layers after surviving many mushroom cuts in the past but it all being the one length isn't great either. I love volume and texture (hate my hair straight) so think layers are going to be a good move.

This is basically what I'm talking about. Layers but none of them above the ear.

Make sure you tell them you don't want blunt layers. I have similar hair to you and avoided layers for ages cos i looked like a Christmas tree! Now they seem to understand!!!

LazyMareofEastown · 17/06/2021 12:46

Dropdead I can relate 🎄🤣.

That's a lovely cut Aqua - love the fringe too.

Don't change it too much! The cut Aquamarine suggested would look lovely. Your hair is stunning btw and a gorgeous colour.

Trytothinkofaname · 18/06/2021 11:26

Any update? Pleeaaasse...

LazyMareofEastown · 18/06/2021 14:18

Here it is. Very happy. It has so much more volume and texture and doesn't just hang like curtains around my face.

The fringe is a wee bit short and choppy and is giving me ever so slight Courteney Cox in Scream 3 vibes 🤣 but it'll be the perfect length in about two weeks.

Gorgeous! It looks very Christina Hendricks in your pic.

dontgobaconmyheart · 18/06/2021 14:33

I'm too late to the party to comment OP but you have gorgeous hair anyway and the haircut is a 10/10, I'd be thrilled with that!

Seaoftroubles · 18/06/2021 14:35

Fabulous! Love it!

JofraArchersFastestBall · 18/06/2021 14:36

Lovely! Did you have it coloured too?
(Selfishly hoping it's a box dye - because then I could ask you what it is! I really like it)

Domoresteps · 18/06/2021 14:43

Fab! Style and colour.

LazyMareofEastown · 18/06/2021 15:09

Thanks all. I'll take a Christina Hendricks comparison any day of the week 😆.

Jofra it's a mix of a few different L'Oréal Majirel dyes - I just buy them from ebay and mix in random ratios at home so couldn't tell you what they were. Sorry 🙁.

@LazyMareofEastown we have similar usernames and similar hair, except both of yours are better:) How do you get that lovely wave? Is it natural or do you use tongs?

greymayday · 18/06/2021 16:55

Major hair envy OP! Looks great, and I hope you had a lovely relaxing time at the salon Smile I too have cut my own hair for years and actually went to the salon post lockdown as a treat and had a great time Grin

LazyMareofEastown · 18/06/2021 20:44

Mare - these waves were done by the stylist using a large barrel waving tong.

I can't master the tong without burning myself so do a shit version at home using my straighteners 🤣.
