Stylish yet functional backpack

What I need is a bog standard school rucksack!

But would like something that is suitable for commuting into central posh part of London on train and then bike.

Need it to have comfy straps, to hold a laptop and wires, make up bag, shoes, water bottle and a jumper if necessary.

Love the sleek stylish thin Knomo ones but just not practical for all the crap I need to schlep.

Anyone found the holy grail?

Samsung do ok ones. They look sleek enough. Another option is to get one of the options from ted baker’s men’s section. They all have comfy straps while the women’s ones often don’t even fit a laptop!!

Samsonite not Samsung

I have a leather one from Fossil and I LOVE it. It wasn't cheap but I use it every day and it fits all my shit in when I'm in the office.

I often see Fjallraven rucksacks when travelling and I think they look casual but stylish. Never owned one so can't vouch for how well they wear etc

I have a canvas Sandqvist rucksack that gets compliments. Feels sturdy and still looks good after about 3 years (although unused for the past year due to wfh). I also have a knomo which was stylish and useful with all the pockets but could only carry it on one shoulder and hurt my neck.

I have one of these. Incredibly comfy as the back and straps are padded. And super durable and looks cool 😎

After extensive research I ended up with one of these - compromised A bit on comfort for the sake of style, but the straps are comfy enough to carry it fully loaded with a chunky laptop and books etc without being too hard on the shoulders, though I am generally only carrying it for 15-20 mins at a time.

Plenty of space, would like an extra pocket or two in an ideal world.

My friend has this one, really practical and nice!

I got one from monsoon last week for £35, commuted from Birmingham to London and seemed fine.

Fairyfeet40 · 15/06/2021 18:00

I have this one in dark grey, after looking for exactly what you describe. I have papers, a lap top, lunch box and jumper in it regularly. I like it as it’s not bulky and at £35 it was worth the risk of ordering. It’s quite slim so the only time I struggled was when I tried packing trainers as well as it prefers flatter items.

It’s also on Amazon for about the same price.

I have one if these and love it. Great colours and a great sustainable brand. I can fit my laptop in mine easily. https://rokalondon.com

Love this! What a shame I don't need one! 😀

I bought this 4 years ago. I have a number of physical challenges which mean that I spend a lot on my shoes and backpacks to be able to travel in London (with my laptop, charger, water bottle etc) without pain. It cost quite a bit. But utterly worth the price. And still looks brand new after quite a bit of use.

I like some of the samsonite backpacks.

Might but one. My current backpack looks big but if i put a make up bag in it, it's full.

I've also got a Roka from TK Maxx. The only thing that I dislike is that there's only one zip going in one direction, rather than a double zip that meets in the middle. So, when I need something out of the main pack, I have to take it off entirely. But that might just be this one particular style. I really like the design and it's got a laptop sleeve inside.

I have the Knomo Berlin and it's like a Tardis, would recommend to anyone (and frequently do on here in fact); DD has the Herschel XL for school and it's enormous and unbelievably heavy. I also have one of these backpacks from M&S and it's nearly as good as my Knomo and a lot cheaper.
