I’d be so grateful if anyone could give any pointers on shops that might do bridesmaid dresses in the UK for girls who are bigger.
One of my bridesmaids is only 9 and quite tall, but the dress I bought her recently from Monsoon in age 14-15 goes nowhere near her :-(
All of the dresses I’ve seen are very fitted/waisted and she’d probably be best with a looser smock style.
I’ve looked on all the usual suspects websites - Monsoon, Next, M&S, Debenhams etc, but nothing.
Very loathe to get her an adult dress, as they all look too formal/grown up, and she’d look so different alongside the other two bridesmaids..

Try Black Butterfly. I have also fitted a very tall nine year old for our wedding and she's in 13-14 years there. They are generous sizes and much better quality than Monsoon.

Friends daughter just wore this as a bridesmaid. Looked lovely on and stretchy

I bought a bridesmaid dress from jjshouse, bit of a gamble but I have to say it was perfect and did look like the photo. Some,of the styles are very forgiving, or you can pay extra for custom measurements.

Thanks @delilahbucket, however those ones are a bit too ordinary daywear/structured for what I’m looking for. The other dresses I’ve already bought are more floaty, sequins etc

@Soundofshuna that looks promising, but I don’t think she’ll fit into age 13, sadly.
She’s very broad, boobs and a tummy, so think she’ll need something more flowing/not cinched in at the waist.

Might be worth trying as I think the middle bit might be elasticated?

tigerbear · 14/06/2021 22:23

@CustardyCreams that one looks great! Thank you. Def close to what I’m looking forward!

Find a local seamstress or friend who can sew and make one.

Yes, this shouldn’t be too expensive and quite quick if you can’t find it in a shop.

This is the only place that properly caters for plus size girls to my knowledge. But you need to allow time for the order to come in from the US.

Shein very cheap quality not great but they do have big rang of dresses for girls even in younger teen sizes.
I've a daughter who loves the girly stuff which in most shops just goes up to age 8 it doesn't fit her but found Shein had lot variety

Hello, I had similar for end of primary party dress.
I found a beautiful Monsoon adult size 10 dress on ebay, bnwt for £12 (I would have paid more if needed, there are lots there). I choose a stunning colour that suits dd.
I then took in as required, shortened the shoulders and added a lace panel at front do not too low cut (dd requested this). I managed this myself, although you could easily take to seamstress. Lace panel was £4 from ebay.
Dd looks stunning, she has a dress that is perfect for her right now.

KatyS36 · 15/06/2021 13:00

With the changes, particularly the additional lace at the front, it looks very similar to her previous monsoon party dress from the children's section.

The jjshouse ones can be made to measure if standard sizes don't suit.

SE13Mummy · 15/06/2021 16:31

Have a look at David's Bridal - they do a range of flower girl and junior bridesmaid dresses including empire line styles which might work.
