Asking hairdresser to redo my colour (trainee!)

I got my hair done by a apprentice hairdresser today and I hate the result Blush I’m not sure wether to go back and ask for them to redo it or if it being cheeky! I went in as a bleach blonde with roots (shown in collage below) and came out so much darker than I was hoping/wanting! I asked to keep as much blonde as possible but maybe make the roots a little more natural as they come in and they’ve been painted almost black they’re so dark and long it looks awful when I put it in a ponytail! I really want to go back and ask them to put some blonde back in as I feel it’s also a little unevenly spread and there’s a few blobs of brown on the blonde strands I do have but not sure if I’m being cheeky or if I took a risk that didn’t pay off! It only cost me £25 plus a tip and I didn’t realise how much I hated it till I got home :( not sure what to do!

Top left is last time I had my hair done (elsewhere) right is how I was when I went in and below Is how I look now! I’m sure I’m probably overreacting but I feel so sad about how I look I can’t think straight hah!

I think I’d ask for it to be blended again tbh :(

Helpiveruinedmyhair · 09/06/2021 22:27

The root they’ve done me is even darker than my natural root and it looks so daft :( I washed it straight away when I got home (it was worse before) and I still hate it. Feel terrible complaint as it was so cheap and she’s only a trainee and all the other stylists were telling her it was great Sad

I can see what you mean, looks a bit “blocky”, was their work overseen by someone qualified?

Helpiveruinedmyhair · 09/06/2021 22:33

@supermodel not really the other stylists were all doing there own thing every so often one would walk by and say ooh that looks lovely, very neat etc. I’m just shocked at how dark it is more than anything, I’ve never complained about my hair before and I’m a bit nervous! I’d rather have gone all over brown than this as I’m so embarrassed (I am aware I’m melodramatic hehe)

Tbh for the orice you paid i would probably just chalk it up to experience and go to someone qualified to fix it.

StevieKnickerbockerglory · 09/06/2021 22:36

Yes, I'd probably go back and don't worry about hurting the trainee's feelings! I'm sure they don't expect everything to be perfect every time when they're still training. In a way, it's the best time to go back, as it's almost expected it won't be right every time iyswim.

It is a lot darker than when you went in and it doesn't look right even if you liked the darker colour. I'm sure they can fix it or one of the supervisors can.

inappropriateraspberry · 09/06/2021 22:39

I'd go back. If nothing else it's a learning opportunity for the trainee, that's the whole point surely! I know it was cheap, but they won't know it's wrong unless you tell them. It may well be corrected by a tutor/senior stylist.

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 10/06/2021 10:15

Is get it fixed, but wouldn't be confident letting the same person loose on it again! Perhaps ask if someone more senior can fix it? Definitely needs some more blonde blended in with a bit more of a delicate hand. I imagine the darker sections will fade quickly though if they're over bleach?

JemIsMyNameNooneElseIsTheSame · 10/06/2021 10:15

*I'd get

Helpiveruinedmyhair · 10/06/2021 10:35

Hi guys! Thanks for the advice I’m going back to the salon today! I’m not normally the type to complain but I just felt awful looking at myself! Lesson learnt!

The colour is lovely.
It's a bit patchy but I love the colour on you

BruceAndNosh · 10/06/2021 17:55

It's a bit patchy but I like the variation in colour, and the overall tone.
You previous colour was very solid.
But it's certainly not beack blonde so i can see why you're unhappy

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 10/06/2021 18:18

They will be fine , I had mine done the other week and didn't like the colour . I called up and she did it again free of charge without any awkwardness. Just call them .

Helpiveruinedmyhair · 10/06/2021 18:19

They were super nice about it just added a few babylights to break up the block at the top and some of the patchiness and it’s something I can learn to live with! All’s well that ends well I suppose!

Good. Glad you went back.

fizznchips · 10/06/2021 18:29

Have you got another photo? Glad you got it sorted Smile

Miseryl · 10/06/2021 20:48

That does look a mess. You definitely need to get it fixed.

InnaBun · 10/06/2021 21:58

Nice one, glad they sorted it.

IloveJudgeJudy · 11/06/2021 15:15

The only time I've had a trainee do it was within a training setting rather than in a salon and I've always been very pleased with the results. It does take much longer but I've always felt very taken care of. The tutors check it and sort it on the spot. They're always looking for things other than cut and blow dry, eg a few years ago DD wanted a complete change of style and colour including an asymmetric cut. It looked great after the tutor had added the finishing touches.
