Shorts for a pear shape who is generous of thigh? Do they exist?

I’m ideally looking for some kind of flattering (!) elasticated waistband or something that is high waisted as my waist is small but my hips large.
But the legs need to be generous as I’ve got large thighs and don’t want them to look like cycling shorts! I want to wear them with a fitted top to kind of show of my
Shape a bit and be cool for summer but I’m struggling!

Any tips?

Following as I'm exactly the same shape as you and finding shorts that fit is a nightmare!

I am very well endowed in the thigh department! I mostly wear denim bermuda type shorts. I have pairs from fat face and Tu. The fitted style of the denim material gives me shape, and covers the worst of my pear shaped excesses. I don't find them hot when worn with a t-shirt and sandals.
I've seen Boden do a chino material bermuda short which looked nice in the pictures, but I've not tried them on.

Sinistericecreamvan · 09/06/2021 13:39

Thank you! I’ve seen some in Matalan but have no idea about sizing! Might have to start a new Matalan thread.

I've not seen the Matalan ones, but I'm wearing the Tu ones now. I am generally a 14 in trousers at the moment and I'd say they are true to size.

Can you sew? I have the same shape, and have found the best way to get shorts I feel great in is to buy them a size up and then take the waist in with darts. It's quite easy as sewing goes :) This means you can choose any style you like and fit them to you perfectly, with plenty of thigh space! If you've not done much sewing, start with thinner fabrics (eg not denim).

I've been struggling with this for years, but last summer bought two different styles from Boden that both fit nicely. Ridiculously expensive for shorts, but already quite good value on a cost per wear basis. You get a choice of leg lengths too, so they can be short rather than knee length, but not too short iyswim.

Bermuda ones don't work IME, being too narrow in the leg. Mine are two linen styles.

Would a mom short work? There are plenty around, I've just got some from ASOS. Basically the short version of mom jeans - they're roomy in the leg

Rina66 · 10/06/2021 04:30

I keep looking at these denim ones, think I may order to put myself out of my misery! They come sized and are £49.

I actually wear magic shorts which are very very flattering but they're one size up to a 14 and are £18, unfortunately they don't come in denim.

I have some from next, and a pair of "running short" type from Primark, although they are shorter than most but not short shorts

SummaLuvin · 10/06/2021 14:34

I favour shorts that mimic the silhouette provided by an a-line/skater skirt - nipped in waist and flares out. I don't find tighter shorts flattering on the thigh (on myself) I think it makes the leg look too thick for the leg hole.

I ordered these on ASOS as was really reluctant to return them as they are so lovely and flattering. But I don't iron and I could tell the fabric would be a nightmare for creases. www.asos.com/asos-design/asos-design-hourglass-tie-waist-suit-linen-shorts-in-neutral/prd/21836251?ctaRef=return%20details%20page

Pricey but LF Markey Henry shorts are brilliant. I've got these and I love them. Very comfy, not too short, great to tuck in your top, and very much on the 80s/90s mom trend.

They've got other styles I've not tried but all similar shape and I think would work well (Weston shorts particularly look great but are sold out in my size!)

Yes! These. I am plus size hourglass and they fit lovely, true to size and come in different colours and are loose around the leg

I am large of hip and thigh, and I just bought some pull-on shorts from Gap that fit really well and are comfortable - they are £35 but have 30% off everything at the moment

Good to see positive responses and suggestions, because I am also pear shaped with generous thighs and was going to say just avoid shorts, they do not work for us! I'll check some of these styles out. Though tbh I still can't see them working on me. I too have a proportionally small waist and shorts that emphasise this just make the rest look even bigger.

Letsnotargue · 10/06/2021 15:17

I have a few pairs of almost knee length shorts from Asda. They’re cotton, elasticated rear waist, they roll up a couple of inches shorter if needed. They’re dead cheap (£12?) and as flattering as shorts can get on me.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 10/06/2021 15:36

Paper bag waist shorts! High elastic waist. I have a tiny waist and gigantic thighs and these are the only shorts that work for me.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 10/06/2021 15:48

I'm
Hourglass and I either wear denim shorts sized up on my hips or paper bag style so show off my waist . H and m do really nice waisted shorts. Vest must be tight to be flattering !

Toilenstripes · 10/06/2021 16:03

Lands End do lovely shorts

Branleuse · 10/06/2021 16:09

most shorts make my thighs look bigger, although those light flippy shorts can work, especially if theyre not short-short

99squirrels · 10/06/2021 16:23

I just bought a skort from Simply Be and love it

raeroe · 10/06/2021 16:34

I've got the black crepe sort of fabric ones from matalan with the elasticated waist that go down to about my knees. I really like them, comfy and light.

Looks like a skirt but you can bend over without worrying

MorganSeventh · 10/06/2021 17:19

I've got these from next, which are not the most fashionable style, but skim over the hips and thighs, are loose on the leg and have an elasticated waist with a functional waist tie, so at least they stay up. They look more like skirt than standard shorts, but are quite flattering. They come in two lengths, mid thigh and these ones which are longer.
