Got a toenail fungal infection after gel pedicure!

Hello all! So ive always had either nailpolish or gel polish on my feet.
But yesterday, I decided to soak off the shellac for once without re-applying any just yet (to give them a break and let them breathe). My left foot’s big toenail was yellow. The lady at the salon said it was nail fungus and to get it treated before coming back.

Anyone has any recommendations for the best and fastest products? So far i was recommended pure and organic coconut oil mixed with organic lavender essential oil.

Thank you! Im so annoyed it had to happen at the beginning of summer!!

There isn’t really a fast answer- the infection needs to be treated and the healthy nail needs to regrow so it will take as long as it takes for your nail to grow out completely.

Expect over a year to treat it unfortunately.

@LightMoon82

It can’t have just happened? Must have been building up over time if the whole nail was yellow? I caught a fungal nail infection from guy I lived with at uni - as in I think he had like fungal infection on his feet and I caught it in the shower. Only a strong oral medication helped me - it’s a horrible medication. There is a regular paint you can use?
Yep I think at first it was a small white stain and I just thought it was just a sign of a damaged nail due to the pedicures, the filing, the shellac etc… so we didnt really think anything of it and kept on applying polish on top! And because the shellac gel stays on forever on the toes, it must have grown while I couldn't see it, under the colour!

Okay thank you! Yeah ill try to get rid of it without the tablets at first and see what happens. Ill go to boots today and see what i can find

Curanail is good and really tree oil for running on the cuticles.

Mine grew out in just a few weeks I was told 6 m but my nails grow quick and I was keeping it super short and it was gone relatively quickly

Coconut oil and tea tree won’t work because the infection is in the nail bed where those products can’t reach.

I speak from bitter experience! Only thing that worked for me was fluconazole.

It might be worth seeing a local podiatrist. I had a similar case once, and they filed the nail and prescribed anti-fungal liquid. Filing the nail makes the treatment more effective. It did take several months to grow out (sadly).
