Weird body shape needs a cheap 'occasion' dress - really need help!

I'm going to a wedding next month and am really struggling to find something to wear that looks nice. It's made me so upset that none of my existing outfits fit any more, especially as I'm on a very limited budget.

So, here's my criteria list - please can you lovely vipers help me?

Budget £30ish. Ideally less and def no more than £40. I'm guaranteed to have some suitable shoes so the budget is purely for the dress/jumpsuit.

Needs to be flattering on what is a size 14, with literally about a stone or two of that of pure tummy. Honestly, my lower belly protrudes so much, I definitely look pregnant. It's gross and needs to somehow be hidden. From the front I look ok, a bit less hourglass than I was but not completely up and down. But from the side it's a whole orchard of apple shape!

Happy with dress or jumpsuit.
Tend to look better with a bit of cleavage showing so no really high necks.
Floaty stuff doesn't look good on me I don't think.
Old me (pre pregnancy apron belly plus additional COVID weight gain) used to suit body con stuff as I was hourglass from all angles. Pfffft.
Help help help!!!!

ChubbyMsSunshine · 04/06/2021 22:26

Thank you! I'll see if I can find it and share a pic to see if it's the one you're thinking of.

OP I am the same and I went for next black shirt dress accessorised to fuck. Good luck.

rainbowninja · 04/06/2021 22:29

Ooh I feel like you're describing my body shape too! Are you set on a dress? I feel like if I was going to a wedding now, I'd go for a skirt and jacket combo 🤔

HollowTalk · 04/06/2021 22:30

This is the New Look dress

21Flora · 04/06/2021 22:32

I’d have a look at Jac Jossa for In The Style, it’s all pretty flattering stuff.

I loved this style of dress - it hid my protruding tummy very well Smile It has a belt, so you can play around with where to tie it to hide the bits you want to hide. Has a lovely side split too (each side). Found mine on eBay but it seems to have vanished - I’ll see if I can find a link.

Is this too floaty?

Thanks @HollowTalk but is not my style at all sadly.

Accessorised to fuck might be the way to go Grin - how big a hat can I get away with to detract from the belly?!

Link with more colour options
www.ebay.co.uk/itm/362980876036?var=632104414282&hash=item5483589f04:g:X-gAAOSwtv5eppNr

It’s much cheaper in this link than I bought it for Shock but the material didn’t feel super cheap. Obviously not v high quality for that price, but it’s held together for a good few wears and had lots of compliments.

MichelleScarn · 04/06/2021 22:36

Thanks @21Flora for that link, am v similar in shape to JJ (much more stomach though!) So really like all of that!

ChubbyMsSunshine · 04/06/2021 22:40

Sorry @MichelleScarn yep it's too floaty. Bloody ditsy print as well!!

Am I just too fussy? Considering trawling maternity ranges at the moment Confused

I Iove this dress @SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo but is it too daytimey for a wedding?

ChubbyMsSunshine · 04/06/2021 22:43

I like a lot of the Jaq Jossa styles but it's a quite informal.

Shein! Lots of choice, so comfy and cheap and cheerful! X

MilesHuntsWig · 04/06/2021 22:44

Maybe check out Popsy, or the pre-loved Popsy Facebook page (can buy second hand and plenty of people of all shapes to advise on dress styles).

ChubbyMsSunshine · 04/06/2021 22:45

God, I sound like such a grumpy cow. I'm really grateful for all of your suggestions, I really am! Think I'm just fussy as I'm feeling like nothings going to look good.

It doesn't help that you can't try anything on at the moment!

The linen will make it look more expensive than it is. tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Pink-Fit-%26-Flare-Linen-Rich-Dress/138491957-Pink There's also a patterned option.

jellybe · 04/06/2021 22:46

I'd go with a black jumpsuit and all the accessories in bright colours

Something like this www.silkfred.com/boutiques/girl-in-mind/clothing/melissa-wrap-neck-straight-leg-jumpsuit-black

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 04/06/2021 22:48

I had the same worry Blush I wore it for a summer outdoor slightly informal wedding and it worked, but if you’re going somewhere more formal you might feel differently! If it helps, the material in real life is more satin-y than in the picture so that helped it feel more “dressy”.

But I always wear jeans or pajamas so I felt very posh - your mileage may vary! Smile

I think this would work well.

overcomewithemulsion · 04/06/2021 22:56

What about a maxi skirt worn quite high up the waist rather than a dress? You could team it up with a pretty top rather than the crop top shown!
