Have just found out that friends who had postponed their wedding till next summer (it was already rescheduled from last year) have decided to go ahead with a v small one in a few weeks on their original date and still have the big party next year. Delighted to be on the list, but I'm currently 15 weeks pregnant, and by coincidence ordered some nice maternity summer dresses from Asos that arrived yesterday. I am so shocked by how terrible they look: I've put on lockdown weight but also a lot of weight since the pregnancy on my back, arse and hips, in 'normal' times I'm a size 12 hourglass shape, but with the small bump I just look terrible - kind of round all over, with a muffin top thats noticeable through the dresses I've got. And definitely NOT pregnant, just heavy and misshapen. I've mostly been wearing stretchy leggings and oversized t shirts so it was a shock.
It seems minor but I'll be seeing friends I haven't seen in ages, the photos from this will be around a long time, its a fancy small dinner in a country house so nothing super formal. Its a small bump, and its probably mostly made of toast, but its totally throwing my shape and I don't know how to dress for this. I've been looking at seraphine, Isabel Olivier, asos and I'm struggling. I was toying with getting some of the 'wide fit' regular dresses on H&M and looking like I'm just going for drapey and oversized...could that work? I don't want to look super fancy but I was looking forward to the excuse to get dressed up and now I feel really down about it.
Should I go maternity and hope I'll get enough of a bump in a few weeks to get away with it, or dress like an 'apple' shape and hope its not too bad?
Any advise would be great.
