Trench coat recommendations!

Can anyone recommend a really beautiful trench coat, I can't justify Burberry as it will spend its life being bundled into overhead lockers and only used for one month a year where I live but mostly when I travel to colder states with work (again only for 6 months a year) I have a relaxed but corporate style for work. Any great ones out there?!

I keep getting followed by this one I really like it damn you targeted ads but have other priorities at the moment

Eminybob · 17/05/2021 22:21

Mine was from La Redoute a couple of years ago, it’s lovely quality and was a great price

Zinnia · 17/05/2021 23:23

I have that Cos one @Sickoffamilydrama - last season's version which was more mustard (even though this year's is called mustard...). It's gorgeous but very long (even on me at 5'9") and unlined so a summer coat really. I have another Cos one in a more classic beige which is lined and so a better weight.

At risk of outing myself as having 3 trench coats, my absolute best one is a Margaret Howell bought at a sample sale years ago - realise that's not very helpful to the OP, but have you looked at EBay or Vestaire etc. for Aquascutum or Burberry secondhand?

Failing that, Whistles always do good coats (like this one), and Uniqlo can be surprisingly good - I have tried a past season version of this one, which is very nice, and have noticed a couple of cool Insta people I follow wearing this men's version lately (though it now seems to be sold out in smaller sizes but you might get lucky in store).

Very jealous of your coat collection @Zinnia
I only ever wear my trench coat when it's warmer, how cold are the places you are going OP?

ZaraW · 18/05/2021 15:46

APC trench coats are high quality and look good.

I love this one at Saint and Sofia. Very Lauren Bacall. Can't justify the price myself but maybe you can. uk.saintandsofia.com/products/trench-coat-beige

I bought a beautiful Burberry vintage coat on eBay . Worth a thought .

SpeckledyHen · 18/05/2021 18:20

Forgot say it was £80.

I've got a Hobbs one which is beautiful - slightly on the heavy side even though it's not 'thick' material iyswim. I'd looked at trenches for literally years before finding one I wanted to commit to.

Kate Fleming off Line Of Duty had a great one in the show which was from APC!

OwlIsBeingAnOwl · 18/05/2021 22:11

Phase Eight also have some nice-looking ones.

Thoughts on this one?

The coldest it will get is 12deg but mostly sit around high teens, so don't need anything too heavy.
I always forget about COS, might need to look at that one !

Bought a hobbs one about 10 yrs ago
Mid weight has had loads of outings
Still fashionable and mid price. Great value

OwlIsBeingAnOwl · 20/05/2021 00:04

I like the Witchery one though a bit suspicious why sleeves are pushed up in all the model photos... I wouldn't go for that colour personally (other colours suit me better) but would think it looks great on someone else!
I do like that Saint & Sophie one upthread.

Someaddedsugar · 20/05/2021 05:47

Have you tried Burberry Brit rather than the Burberry line? The BB trenches are less than the Ralph Lauren one shared and still a classic if you go for a traditional colour?

TortoiseShed · 20/05/2021 10:23

I'm eyeing some vintage Burberry trenches on Vestiaire as we speak! Not even sure I can justify the secondhand price, but perhaps... Smile

limesoda · 20/05/2021 10:27

I love my red saskia trench from Hobbs. I don't really suit camel, even though it is supposedly for everyone.

I get loads of compliments on it as well, which is always good for the ego.

Salanda · 20/05/2021 11:10

Mackintosh! A bit cooler than Burberry IMO.... British made, great quality.

SummaLuvin · 20/05/2021 11:22

@TortoiseShed surely you justify it by doing your bit for the environment...

TortoiseShed · 20/05/2021 11:26

That is VERY true @SummaLuvin, and my motives would be entirely altruistic there, that's right Grin
