Best shampoo for hair that gets greasy quickly? (and doesn't cost the earth?)

I have above shoulder-length, fine-ish hair with a scalp that reacts to most shampoos with an over-production of grease! I would like to last at least 24 hours before looking a fright.

I've tried all sorts of brands and haven't noticed a difference. Recommendations appreciated!

Ethique sweet and spicy or st Clements, or lush montalbano shampoo bars are good for greasy hair.
Not sure if you meant environmentally friendly or cheap - these are environmentally friendly and last a long time but aren't super cheap.

The L'Oreal Elvive Clay shampoo is good. But I always spritz my freshly dried hair with some dry shampoo to fend off any end of day oiliness.

Serpenta · 16/05/2021 18:19

Skipping conditioner is also a good idea.

Invisimamma · 16/05/2021 18:21

A quick spray of dry shampoo on freshly washed hair will keep greasey roots at bay for longer.
I swear by batiste, I wish I'd discovered it years ago.

LadyGAgain · 16/05/2021 18:27

Herbal essences 0% silicones and parabens but I still have to wash daily.

Peachypips78 · 16/05/2021 18:32

I'm the same OP. My hair is greasy at the roots now and I washed it this morning. My skin is greasy too so it's not surprising I guess.

I've actually tried all of the shampoos above, but haven't thought of using dry shampoo- going to give that a go.

Serpenta · 16/05/2021 18:34

I would be lost without dry shampoo. I can only dream of having the kind of scalp that only requires hair to be washed once a week!

daisydalrymple · 16/05/2021 18:37

Johnson’s baby shampoo is actually quite good on greasy hair.

Susannahmoody · 16/05/2021 18:38

Alberto balsam tea tree tingle.
Neutrogena anti residue, rectangular bottle
Elvive clay, as mentioned above
Any volumising, no silicone shampoo.

Tbh cheap vs expensive, they are all much of a muchness.

Also, Johnsons Baby shampoo, yellow is good also.

My hair is exactly the same, very fine and so greasy too. It can be greasy the same night I’ve washed it if I’ve touched it too much (and I don’t really touch it very much so it doesn’t take a lot!). Loads of shampoos make my hair greasy instantly even if I rinse them out thoroughly but Aussie Mega shampoo and conditioner work a treat for me. I don’t deviate at all now as I know they work and are reasonably priced, and are quite often on offer in Tesco! The conditioner makes my hair really soft and shiny (if that’s what you’re after)!

cherrypiepie · 16/05/2021 19:16

I use tresemme 2 in 1. Horror of horrors

Tried a million shampoos and conditioners.

It really sucks having hair that needs daily morning washing.

Mines greasy by 9pm as it's fine and sparse. I can't do it the night before as it would look awful.

This shampoo is not ideal for my scalp though. So watching with interest.

Dinnertime22 · 16/05/2021 19:28

I use the Aussie range too.

chocolateoranges33 · 16/05/2021 19:31

My hair is exactly the same and I have to wash it every morning without fail. The best shampoo & conditioner I've found us herbal essences clear range - no parabens or silicone. They're £2 a bottle in savers. Superdrug also sell them. They're the only products I've found to work and being cheap is a bonus!

sunlight81 · 16/05/2021 19:42

I rotate 3 shampoo and conditioner sets every shower (I shower ever 2days)

  1. head and shoulders 2in1 (no extra conditioner)

  2. super cheap strawberry shampoo and conditioner from B&m

  3. An Eco Shampoo bar. I also use a conditioner bar sparingly (and run it over my body too as an in shower moisturiser). I use a local (to me) company however I suspect any will do. www.wrigglytinsoap.co.uk

This gives me 2 days of lovely hair (three if I use dry shampoo). I have known to go 4 days if I've showered but not got time to wash/dry my hair before going out.

Soontobe60 · 16/05/2021 19:44

Do you wash your hair in the morning or in the evening? I used to have. Bath every evening and wash my hair, now I shower in the morning and wash it. It makes a massive difference.

TheFutureIs · 16/05/2021 19:45

I've found the rosemary one from Faith in Nature good. Can get it at a decent price on Amazon

Ginpuddles · 16/05/2021 19:56

Another vote for the Elvive clay. Revolutionary for my fine greasy hair.

MondayYogurt · 16/05/2021 20:26

If you're in a hard water area it will make your hair more greasy anyway.

Vyff · 16/05/2021 20:38

Aussie has been good for my hair

Lulu1919 · 16/05/2021 21:10

Vosene

PegasusReturns · 16/05/2021 22:06

Tresseme deep cleansing shampoo is the best I’ve found but I still need to wash every other day.

I also like Bumble and Bumble Sunday shampoo but find it can be hard to get hold of.

mnahmnah · 16/05/2021 22:13

I have the same hair as you. I
Love the faith in nature range

Mollymalone123 · 16/05/2021 22:16

I have used all of the suggested ones.
My hairdresser said just put plain talc i er your parting and comb out and it works-same principle as dry shampoo but with less ingredients for your scalp to react .

LadyGAgain · 16/05/2021 22:57

@MondayYogurt

Valid point. The water here is very very hard and chalky.
LightOfAThousandStars · 16/05/2021 23:06

Faith in Nature Tea Tree Shampoo and a tiny bit of the matching conditioner on ends of hair has been the best option for me. I also use Noughty Detox Dynamo Clarifying Shampoo every two weeks which helps with build up etc.
