All
After so much prevaricating due to C19 and delays....my Son and his luscious finance have named the day...2nd July 2022

So - I do not want to be last minute and am already thinking about what to wear.
Its Lounge suits for men, church service in a rustic North Wales church and a hotel reception. Bride and Groom early 30's...academic and arty/alternative crowd of friends so it won't be formal formal....

I am sshh 60, 5ft 4, a slimmish 8 stone and am olive colouring with BRonde highlighted hair...brown eyes....get the pic?

Fave style are usually high street, but am simply not a dress wearer and when I do, its almost always a simple shift navy and safe black/grey/beige

Boring....but I do not want to look or feel dull on this much anticipated day....

I am looking for suggestions outside my very small group of girlfriends most of whom have already done Mother of The Groom and have said to stay in the comfort zone and deff do not outshine anyone!

My Son loves a bit of style and wants me to look good as much as I want to. DH doesn't mind what my get up is!

One 'look' I want to avoid is what I call 'Nancy Regan' which rules out Phase Eight for me!! I feel I still have a figure and like to show it but definitely no cleavage action or too much above the knee. I do love a hat...and do not like a fascinator!

Colours I love are rust, orange even, turquoise and obviously safe navy/black, I also love the right shade of duck egg blue......anyone have any ideas or perhaps might also be in same position and are forward planning for a long awaited wedding??

Thanks all

Would a nice jumpsuit work maybe? Be a bit funkier than a dress and there's nice ones out there.

Shibumi might be worth a look - the range includes some beautiful coats that look good with tapered trousers.

Helen McAlinden has some lovely clothes - also at John Lewis. Including a Duck Egg dress. 😁

I would try some local boutiques. My DSIL got her mother-of-the-bride outfit from one last week (and I definitely had her down as a Phase 8 kinda girl - in a nice way). I'm not sure it matters what I wear as aunt-of-the-bride but I too will be raiding a vair nice dress shop round the corner.

I'd suggest small, local boutiques too. They just get interesting items in as the don't have to dance to the tune of the mass market buyers in dept stores, so often have a unique and different aesthetic. If you establish a rapport with the ones you feel match your style, you may find that they'll be prepared to keep an eye out for things they think you'll like, and call you when it has arrived in the store.

I wore a purple swing dress to DD's wedding, and a crinkle sleeveless dress with a bolero type jacket , but because it was crinkled and so was the jacket it wasn't as formal as it sounds. There is an old saying about the mother of the groom, wear beige, sit down and shut up. If you don't like wearing dresses don't , a pair of nice trousers with a pretty top would be lovely.
