Any ideas for making my silver shoes less dazzling

I bought some delicious silver sandals a few months ago and would like to wear them for a few outings around Christmas.

Thing is, they're bright silver and look a bit drag queen. If they were more pewter-y they'd be more Rita Hayworth.

Any ideas for dulling them (without ruining obviously)?

they have some slightly "distressed" ones in Clarks (high mary janes) but not sure how they achieved it. assume something to do with how they tan/dye the leather.

No idea - but I also have some very dazzly ones that I nearly didn't wear to a wedding last wekk - & got loads of compliments on them
Although maybe people were just so dazzled by the reflection from them that they didn't know what else to say

Sadly tanning or dyeing is way beyond my capabilities. I was hoping for some earthy tips like rubbing them in soil. Hmm, might be worth a go, now that I think of it.

Try rubbing black shoe polish on them (a discreet patch first). then buff off. It may 'undazzle' them a little.

If you've seen my thin, mottled, blue, bony feet you'd know why I don't want people looking too closely.

Nbg · 15/11/2007 16:07

Hairspray could work on them.

That usually dulls stuff down.

errrrr · 15/11/2007 16:12

Thanks NBG, I'll give it a go. At least it's less risky than my soil option.

PuppyDogTails · 15/11/2007 17:01

I managed it once by rubbing white spirit on them. It can be brutal though so I would take it slowly and try on a hidden bit first!
