I wear jeans every day...
whats out in the shops that i should start introducing into my life?

I'm a sahm, size 12 about 5' 8" ish
I want to not look scruffy anymore but not really smart-somewhere inbetween iyswim?

Not sure where to start!

easiest is to start with nearly-jeans - cords, khakis, grey wool trousers etc
Gap is a good place to start for fairly classic stuff.

then work up to skirts and boots if you feel the need

numptysmummy · 15/11/2007 11:27

I don't wear jeans much as i can never get a decent fit. I wear skirts alot - they don't have to be smart. Like mrsb said cords are a good inbetween or combats if you want something more casual. Denim skirts are in at mo with thick tights and boots so you still have the warmth of denim without the same old same old.

Bundle · 15/11/2007 11:28

wide leg trousers with trainers is a good look imo. with shirt/tank top or layers (i got some black wide legs from debenhams the betty jackson bit)

sammysam · 15/11/2007 11:34

oooo-great ideas!
ok denim i always worry about-what colour and then what colour tights and boots?
what other kinds of skirts?
i find trousers/jeans really difficult to shop for-i have quite a short body so need then to be lowish cut else i find them uncomfortable-not many places do them-gap don't tend to fit (haven't been for a while though)

i love wide legs! (never a fan of skinny-my thighs and bum won't let me!

I have a dark denim mini,a dirty look one and i wera them with thick charcoal tights or brown opaques and i gave flat brown boots. THe flats and thick tights ,make you feel well covered but show more iyswim.

sammysam · 15/11/2007 11:53

where were the skirt and boots from numptysmummy?

anyone have other ideas? and where to look as won't have long in the shops.

Really want to get some cords or wide leg trousers, skirt, jumper dress, some daytime boots and some evening boots and some flat ballet/pump type shoes, plus something to wear on top.

where should ilook first?

You could cheat and wear black or coloured jeans as a gentle introduction?

Monsoon did some lovely sexy, stretchy cords last year, too (don't know if they have them this year too?).

Do you dare to do the cropped trousers / city shorts thing with thick tights and boots? You're tall,so you could probably carry it off.

Or you could sack off the trews altogether and go for skirts or dresses.I find those long-ish wrap dresses quite wearable with boots(I'm a 12-14,tall).

sammysam · 15/11/2007 16:20

i'd love a wrap dress-where has some at the mo?

I'm loathed to buy from Monsoon as i used to work there and now don't get discount-plus quality is not always great considering the price, but i should go have a look.

I'll have a look at Uniqlo-not sure if there is one near me.....

i like polo necks but don't think i can wear them-i'm not big chested at all but have a very thin neck and narrow shoulders and i think i look weird in them

re boots for the day time-is there such a thing as apair that are flat and don't make your feet look like boats? my feet are size 7/7.5 and i've always been paronoid about them

White Stuff does very nice cords. I have 2 pairs in brown and dark bluey-grey, which I bought last winter, and they seem to have them again:

They do very nice A-line skirts too.

sammysam · 17/11/2007 18:24

thanks bonitaMia-am near one next weekend so will go and have a look-what kind of fit are they? Tight/loose normal/low waisted?

OP posts:
bonitaMia · 19/11/2007 10:59

They're loose, low waist, but not excessively low.
