What do you wear with baggy/slouchy jeans?

Hello

Recently bought some slouchy jeans (quite baggy on me) which I really like but not entirely sure what to wear with them. I have worn skinies for a long time and everything seems to look good with them so I'm struggling with this new style.

What tops do I wear?
What shoes?

Links/pics would be good.

Help !

Crop tops and white trainers as per the picture!

Tucking a tight fitted t shirt or top in with a belt can look nice. Wear with trainers or pumps. Rolling the legs up a few turns can look nice xx

PoTheDog · 30/04/2021 21:07

Tucked in fitted scoop neck t-shirt usually. And trainers with trainer socks. A fitted thin crew neck jumper too atm

Enidblyton1 · 30/04/2021 21:08

I tend to wear them with t-shirts tucked in, and sloppy jumpers. You could wear them with a pair of killer heels, if you don’t want to wear trainers.

XingMing · 30/04/2021 21:13

To balance your silhouette, you need a close fitted top when wearing anything flowing on your lower half, to prove that you are not 10-tonne Tessie. If you are thin up top, tight fitting tops balance you. If you have skinny legs and bottom, then the volume is worn at the top.

XingMing · 30/04/2021 21:16

Sorry, that sounds dreadful. I am hefty upper body with big tits, and need to work very hard to avoid loooking matronly, so possibly a bit obsessive about it.

EllaPaella · 01/05/2021 08:05

I bought these jeans a couple of years ago and can only really make them work for me in warmer months when worn with sandals. If I wear them with trainers instantly change the whole look and it feels wrong.
I wear with T shirts or this cami tucked in or a cropped T shirt/top that only just covers the top of the waist.
I haven't found a sweater that works with them yet.
I do like them but I would also like some ideas of what to wear them with!

I only mean that wearing them with trainers feels wrong on me - generally I love the look of a baggier jean with trainers on others.

LizziesTwin · 01/05/2021 08:11

@EllaPaella I know what you mean - I find I look as if I’m wearing scruffy old clothes and couldn’t be bothered, perhaps more so than most women as I spend a lot of time walking dogs and gardening.

AgreeGrin I won't be wearing baggier jeans as I look big overall - the 'matronly' look ages me by a few decades! I think @EllaPaella looks great in the photo with sandals with slim top half/ looser bottom half
Weeedonkey · 01/05/2021 08:13

I want a pair of jeans like that but I worry with a tight tshirt and white trainers I’ll look like I’m in a 90s girl band 😂

Get a bubble perm and it'll be perfect!
SummaLuvin · 01/05/2021 08:24

Agree with PP, a more fitted top looks good, I love square neck at the moment.

Also make sure you wear a belt. With skinnies I could take or leave a belt and most of the time didn’t bother, but find its vital with a looser cut jean to pull it together and emphasise a smaller waist. Loving Sezane Artemis right now.

Beachcomber · 01/05/2021 08:31

I find ankle boots work well with that sort of jean. I have brown Chelsea boots and a grey pair that are Chelseaish which work well for cooler days (roll your jeans to be just above / hitting the top of the boot).

Converse high tops or low top plimsolls work too. Sandals all good. I don't wear heels but I have low red wedges which seem to work.

On top I wear shortish tops (not crop cos I've got a slight mum tum and I'm 47). Things that come to the waistband basically. I find a short but boxy t-shirt works well.
I also like a button up type shirt / blouse with a rounded collar. Again not too long.

Nice jeans by the way.

Ihavenoname21 · 01/05/2021 08:31

Ahh thank you all for your comments, really helpful!

@Weeedonkey that is my worry too! 😅

@XingMing that makes total sense, thank you! I shall remember that 😃

@EllaPaella that is a lovely outfit!

@SummaLuvin definitely needs a belt! I have a nice black one but ut is a little thin so on the hunt for a thicker one 😊

Where can I get some nice fitted tops?

@Beachcomber great tips, thank you! I like the idea of a body tshirt... would you wear it tucked in?

OP posts:
Ihavenoname21 · 01/05/2021 08:32

Boxy not body 🤦🏼‍♀️

Beachcomber · 01/05/2021 08:45

I don't tuck my boxy t-shirt in as it is quite short. It comes to the waistband of my jeans. I find that more flattering on me than tucking in a longer t-shirt.

I think a tucked in t-shirt looks great with these kinds of jeans though (just not on me until l lose a little extra weight I'm carrying).

Beachcomber · 01/05/2021 08:55

I can't find a good picture but this sort of t-shirt but just a teeny bit longer cos I don't particularly want to flash my tummy.

VanillaAndOrange · 01/05/2021 08:59

I like to have only one half of me dressed in baggy clothes at a time. So with baggier jeans I might wear a little fitted vest top or scoop-neck t-shirt, possibly a shirt knotted at the waist. if you wear a jumper or hoodie I think it should be quite short, so the waist is still defined.

TeaAddict235 · 01/05/2021 11:27

@EllaPaella those are really nice jeans. Where did you get them from please?

EllaPaella · 01/05/2021 11:30

Thanks @TeaAddict235 they are Bershka via Asos, about two years old now. They are Mom style.
