Hair cut tomorrow. What would you do to my hair?

What length do you think? I'm thinking collar length, it's got a bit thin on the ends. I'm not colouring it. TIA

Your hair is actually very nice as is.

Why do you want to cut it? To make it easier to handle?

DinosaurDiana · 30/04/2021 10:27

I wouldn’t go that short. I’d just have a good chop to get rid of the dead ends.

OhTheTastyNuts · 30/04/2021 10:27

Collar length will look great!

It feels quite damaged and thin, was thinking a good cut would thicken it up a bit.

Yes maybe I'll start by doing that. Last hair cut was 2 years ago! Confused

I would take a decent amount off, it does look a bit thin. I might even be tempted to go shorter than you suggested. Summer is coming. It will always grow anyway. Be brave.

CleverCatty · 30/04/2021 10:39

OK good cut would be nice a few inches but yes, maybe do it in stages? like a couple of inches off and see how it looks/feels?

I only say that as I had about an inch (and shaped etc) off the other week and wished I'd told my otherwise lovely hairdresser not to cut layers in and only take off half an inch!

Grognonne · 30/04/2021 10:41

Definitely collar length. It’s such a nice feeling getting rid of the thin ends, and you might as well get your money’s worth! Feels a bit more modern as well.

DinosaurDiana · 30/04/2021 10:41

My DD had a lot chopped off hers recently and, although she says she likes it, I can tell she wishes she’d left it longer.
You can always go shorter at another visit.

LizzieMacQueen · 30/04/2021 10:42

I'd ask for it to be left long enough that you can still make a decent ponytail out of it.

Horehound · 30/04/2021 10:43

I would just take 2 inches off that.

That is what I was thinking to begin with. I actually never wear it down, always in a bun or pony. Maybe I'll start with 2 inches.

A couple of inches off and look at those clip in or tape extensions if you want to thicken it up.

Horehound · 30/04/2021 11:28

Yes. I just had a haircut and went to my collar and actually i wish it was just an inch or two longer. But it will grow :) o wear my hair up Alot too

RainedOn · 30/04/2021 11:34

Keep it long, it's lovely.

Aquamarine1029 · 30/04/2021 11:38

I would take 3 inches off, add in some long curtain fringe and long layers throughout for shape and movement.

SoupDragon · 30/04/2021 11:40

I agree - I'd go for 2 or 3 inches only unless the hairdresser recommended more to remove damaged hair and improve the condition.

I really want a long curtain fringe but no hairdresser seems to be able to achieve it!

Is that your natural colour? Its beautiful! I agree with the others just a couple of inches.

The curtain fringe would be nice too, and I completely understand what you mean, hairdressers don't seem willing to cut them thick enough.

Yes it is. I've had highlights ever since I was a teenager, almost 40 now and I've just managed to grow it all out, so didn't really know what colour I was anymore! It's taken a couple years to grow it out but finally done it.

What?? I cut mine myself. I learned from a tutorial on YouTube and it comes out perfectly. It's not hard! A professional should be able to manage it. How bizarre!

harryandmarv · 30/04/2021 13:27

Tbh, you hair, to me, doesn’t look that thin or in bad condition, it looks nice. I’d suggest between 2-3 inches off at most. Going to collar bone length or shorter I think you may regret and yes I know hair grows back, but it’s a ball ache waiting for it as sometimes takes ages! See how you feel first with it a bit shorter, then you can always have a bit more off later if you wish.

SwimBaby · 30/04/2021 16:30

Perhaps a couple of inches and add some long layers?

SmashingPumpkinPatch · 30/04/2021 18:13

I agree with you and some pps; just 2 inches to start with. Maybe you'll decide to go shorter, but maybe not. I think you're either a short hair person or you aren't, so I'd never advise anyone to go short if they weren't into short hair.

pallisers · 30/04/2021 19:07

My dd has very similar hair - it was very long, healthy but looked thin. About 18 months ago she had it chopped to just skimming her shoulders. It was lovely on her - made her hair much thicker looking. It has grown again now because of the lack of hairdressers.
