If this colour looks amazing on me, what season am I?

I wore this new dusky grey blue duster jacket today and got so many compliments that I looked well. I had a good look at myself when I got home and could see it makes my skin glow, my hair colour not too over powering and my eyes pop.

It’s the first colour I’ve worn where I actually “get” the MN HOC etc raving about wearing the right colour.
So I’m NC25 (pale warm skin tone), strawberry dark blonde hair with caramel tones (acc to my hairdresser!) and hazel eyes. So what season would I be? And which other colours will look good on me.
Usually I can look pale and wan and my hair can look too ginger but this blue grey colour just toned me down and made my skin look golden.
I’ve attached the colour of the duster coat for reference.

Those photos have taken two different colours! The most true to life shade is the first with the button showing. The second colour is brighter than the actual jacket.

I don't know OP but that grey/blue colour really suits me too, and I've discovered that colours with grey tones look so much better than yellowy ones. Eg a grey-ish green rather than a yellowy one. In fact, yellow or orange colours really drain me.

Oddly, black looks fine on me. I'd be interested to know what this means in terms of seasons (always been too much of a tight-arse to get my colours done Grin).

nickEcave · 24/04/2021 15:54

Sounds like you're a summer. They suit cool greyed out colours and can wear many different shades of blue. I'm autumn and the only blues that suit me are green teal colours.

JMAngel1 · 24/04/2021 15:59

I look fairly ok in black.
It’s weird because I everyone always says that I must be an autumn but I really don’t look good in warm terracotta or coral shades as I look like I’m going to set on fire!

Because I think I suit more muted shades, I’ve thought I was a Spring. Does this blue grey colour feature in Spring colours? I do suit bitter warm chocolate shades too though which muddies the water.

I’d just like more wow colours to wear that make me feel good about myself. I too though can’t justify a full HOC consultation at the moment.

A Summer - so I could be actually cool even though my skin, hair and eyes are warm? I wonder if it’s to do with balance. Maybe the warmer someone is, they need cool shades to tone them/neutralise them down?

I suit powder blue, navy blue, petrol blue and also really suit all shades of grey. I'm a summer.

JMAngel1 · 24/04/2021 16:10

Petrol blue! Yes, that’s the shade - I couldn’t think of a name for it.
Gosh, a summer. Will have to do some googling and see what other colours might suit me as well.

I found this website really useful:

theconceptwardrobe.com/develop-personal-style

Also just look at the colour palletes that suit each season. I found it quite easy to identify what season I was by looking at those and recognising that one clearly had all the colours I looked good in Grin

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 24/04/2021 16:29

This website is good for colour info too www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/

coronafiona · 24/04/2021 16:40

I have dark brown hair hazel eyes and fair ish skin and I look terrible in any watching beige, yellow, orange or brown. I look good in grey, pale aqua green, black, white, fuchsia purple and navy. I don't know if that helps but it sounds like we have similar issues with yellow hues!

JMAngel1 · 24/04/2021 16:42

Blimey - true summer is looking likely. Not light summer - I look dead in pastel shades.
But french grey and muted pinky purple shades are good on me. There’s a colour on the Kettlewell site which is very good for me I think - rose brown - I would love to find things in this colour. And all of the dusky roses too.
Gosh, so I need to go for the opposite season and go cooler to neutralise my warmth. Mind blown!

You could be a soft summer, it’s the closest to autumn in the summer spectrum. That’s what I am and that blue suits me too.

ToManderleyAgain · 24/04/2021 19:22

Yes, true or soft summer. If cocoa browns suit you then soft/brown summer might be the one!

JMAngel1 · 24/04/2021 19:32

Wow guys. Yes soft summer I think it is - I had no idea a summer was so related to Autumn. It makes sense now.
Now just got to find more colours in this palette. The kettlewell stock is very limited in each colour and also quite overpriced. I definitely want something in heliotrope

  • looks beautiful.

That colour is too light to be called petrol blue, which is a dark muted warm blue. I would say it is cornflower blue.

If you are a summer you are not warm toned. You might be on the cool side of neutral, but you can’t be warm and a summer. Your colours aren’t the opposite of your skin, they should complement it.

If you often look “pale and wan” and you think your warm dyed hair can look a bit gingery, it is probably because you should dye your hair a cool colour.

Disclaimer: this is all if you are a summer, which that colour suggests you might be. Summer colours are cool, light and muted.
(And fyi spring colours are not muted. Spring colours are warm, bright and clear)

LadyEloise · 24/05/2021 18:51

Can a Summer have freckles ?
I don't know if I am a Spring or Summer.
It's the skin tone I'm not able to assess.
The veins in my wrists appear to be green AND blue Shock
I'm fair skinned, my skin burns and goes red but will tan eventually.

BikeRunSki · 24/05/2021 19:00

Summer

I had my colours done about 10000 years ago, and that dusty, chalky blue is one of my best colours.

Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 24/05/2021 19:03

Could be true colour soft autumn

If this colour looks amazing on me, what season am I?
Mycatismadeofstringcheese · 24/05/2021 19:07

Or soft summer

Best way to really tell us by having a draping and comparing.

Absolutely not! If your skin is warm then you are autumn or spring. If your skin is cool then you are summer or winter. Obvs neutral is exactly that and you have more flexibility, but it is definitely NOT the case that if you are warm toned then you wear cool tones to balance it out or vice verse. If you are warm toned then you should wear warm colours. Cool colours will look wrong on you. And vice versa if you are cool toned.
TableNiner · 24/05/2021 22:07

That is one of Trinny's colours and she's always saying she is neutral, not warm or cool.

Blondiney · 24/05/2021 22:12

I'm a warm spring and look HORRENDOUS is anything dusty and pastelish so you can probably cross that off the list.

The summers have those sort of colours I think.

SallyMcNally · 24/05/2021 23:36

I'm a soft summer, my skin is cool/neutral and my hair skin and eyes are fairly low contrast. I have dark blonde/light brown hair and can't take yellow/orange/ yellowy green colours well.

I suit pink (or it could be that all white people suit pink and I only notice it on myself). What would that make me?
