I used to love cleanse and polish but it just doesn't feel, smell or clean the same, to me at least. And now my son is a bit spotty/ greasy/ blackheads and I don't know where to start. Is teen acne just hormonal and best with gentle approach?

My sons both like charcoal face washes

Dermalogica Clear Start is good stuff - a bit pricey but my ds started with it in early teens and it worked well. DS also used the tea tree range from Body Shop and I've heard Sam Farmer products are highly rated too (not tried personally)

His acne became quite significant at 15/16 so we ended up at GP and he's had Epiduo for a while which completely cleared it up. If your DS can't get rid of his spots with over the counter skincare, I'd definitely recommend trip to GP.

my DS1 is 15 and has used acnecide for a good few years. He uses a normal cleanser and then the cream which keeps his spots in check.

Without this he would have full on acne I think

Asda do a tea treat oil foam pump thing. It's only £2 and works so good on my sons skin!

Cetaphil gentle cleanser. Ds uses it and I use it and it's amazing

Pears green soap is brilliant for oily skin. Could try using that in the morning and the Cetaphil cleanser recommended above at night.

Our son has seen a cast improve the UID g Freederm products

I watched a video by a skincare lady discussing teenage skin and she recommended CeraVe face wash. It’s unscented and suitable for all skin types. You need a pile of face cloths or muslin cloths and change them daily .... encourage him to avoid touching his face where possible.

My sons all use La Roche Posay Effaclar range. It's the only thing they all agree on😄

cerave hydrating cleanser or the salicylic cleanser for spots/blackheads are decent recommendations - also come in large bottles so great value for money

If he’s getting spots contact the dr, it’s normal to have oily skin at puberty and afterwards, it’s not normal for a bacterial infection to have got in.
