Have trousers become very long or has something changed in my proportions?

I'm 5'7" so not short, slightly taller than average?

However, every single pair of trousers I've ordered in the last 3 years, except perhaps cropped cigarette style ones, has been far too long. In some cases up to 6 in too long.

Who are these trousers for? Do other people have this issue or do I have unusually short legs and long body, although I don't think I've had this problem historically? Are people taller?

Where are you ordering from? I've found trouser and sleeve lengths are too short for me now.
It could be that you're wearing them too low, if you're buying high waisted maybe?

ginandwineandbaileys · 10/04/2021 15:01

Although if I wear high waisted trousers on my waist, the crotch isn't long enough for me. I seem to have an abnormally long crotch Confused

Are you 40+? Each generation is getting taller, statistically it is very unusual to not be taller than at least one of your parents. Standard leg lengths in clothes have probably increased to accommodate this. Also might depend on brands, H&M is Swedish so might design for a taller person for example.

GrumpyHoonMain · 10/04/2021 15:34

It’s because the fashion is high waisted and / or 90s style leg for some wide leg styles; so they’re designed to be worn with trainers or heels.

PollyThePony · 10/04/2021 15:37

I often find trousers a bit short, but recently they have been...ok. Depends on the trousers. Full length, (as in, not ankle grazers or cropped), I still find short! Especially pyjama type trousers.

Would also be interested to know where you're ordering from, as I'd like to order from there please Grin

I dunno - as a shortarse I've always had this problem.

It totally pisses me off that the majority of men's trousers come in different leg lengths, but most women's clothes designers refuse to acknowledge that women are different heights Confused

And no I don't want a half hearted rack of black polyester trousers and maybe one style of jeans that make up the usual "petite" range Angry

JennyBond · 10/04/2021 15:44

I’ve always assumed with some places they are deliberately long so that anyone can buy them and get them turned up?

I feel your pain as a tall person. OP if they are getting longer they haven't reached my lofty heights yet. I'm 'only' 5ft 10 yet I struggle to find anything off the peg. Next are pretty decent but as peaches says its usually a crappy Tall afterthought section in Dorothy Perkins or ASOS. Neither of which I am particularly keen on.
MissyB1 · 10/04/2021 16:07

Well I’m 5ft 2 and used to buy regular length in most shops, now I’m having to buy petite or short - and of course that’s only if the shop actually sells that option!
It’s all pretty annoying, especially as you can’t try anything on anymore. And I don’t want to keep having to post things back.

I’ve been trying to buy a pair of jeans for 6 months now!

SpiceRat · 10/04/2021 16:15

5 foot and also plus size and it’s impossible to buy trousers that fit. I always end up a good foot of extra material. Why do retailers think the fatter you are the taller you are?

100%

Cuffed jeans or leggings are the only things I wear Grin

@Northernsoullover - I have totally the same problem and am also 5'10"
